Well, Qualcomm is having an autocross this sat. But you do have to pass tech (pretty sure, sorry tired and had a long day) and I know you do have to have a helmet. Snell rating 95 or higher. Good luck!

If you can't make the one this saturday there is one on dec 13. It does cost a lot to join. Please correct me if I'm wrong on the prices, but it's 35$ to join solo II and another 35$ (or 20$?) to join SCCA. If you are not an SCCA member, it's 35$ for 1 day (3 runs). If you are an SCCA member, then it's 20$ for one day.

They do have rental helmets you can use, but it's suggested to bring your own. You never know where those helmets ahve been.

Your also required to work on track. The day goes by pretty slow, but it's always fun watching other cars race. IMO, the tech inspection is crap, it took about 2 minutes total. They just went around the car to see battery tie down, intake, lug nuts tight, hubcaps off, etc... doesn't take very long. Just remember to have fun, gl

Hey

I am a regular San Diego region autoxer. A few of my buddies as well.

First thing is if your car will pass tech. Its really easy to as long as everything is in good running order. There are loaner helmets available, but bring a head sock unless you want a pomade.

The cost for a regional membership ( required ) is $15 a year. This is your car number. Events are $35 for the day, $20 if you are an SCCA member. ( not required )

Autox is a great way to get some track time, and learn car control techniques. Your skills as a driver will improve if you race regularly. The biggest mistake you can make is to show up and think you are going to do well. Its all about having fun!

Hope to see you there.

The timing for these events sucks, haha. I have a final that week but I'm going to do it anyways, who needs to study, right? Yeah I'll see you guys out there. I don't expect to do well, I know I suck. But isn't 3 runs really short?

Three runs is short. Thats the major draw back to the Solo events. There are tricks to maximising your track time. Stick around at the end of the day for "fun runs" ( $1 a run, usually you get two or three more runs in ) Also, you learn alot from catching rides from people. Find someone who is not running their class runs ( x runs or fun runs ) See how an experinced driver attacks the course and handles the car.
Aside from that I just hang out and talk to people and check out cars.
