wont rev past 3k, not MAF problem
So my S14 sr20det (s13 chassis) wont go past 3k rpm in any gear including neutral. This would normally scream MAF problem but when i unplugged my MAF at idle the car idle changed and then died so there is nothing wrong with my MAF sensor. Is there anything else that i could check that might be the problem? BTW for those of you who are wondering the MAF is a stock s14 sr20det MAF

but if i unplug my maf while the car is on it dies... doesnt that mean there is nothing wrong with it?
i heard that the ecu has different modes it can be in. could it just not be in the right mode for driving? if so how do i change it and how do i check the engine codes. all i see is one little ass screw and no leds |

Your car should run fine with the MAFS unplugged, but will have a 2500-3000 rpm rev limit.
Try a known good MAFS and report back. Or check for codes like previous people said. I know I had a bad MAFS once and no codes showed up. |

sometimes it will die when you unplug the maf.
that is why i said try and start it with it unplugged. it will put the car in limp mode. have you hooked up your consult wire? |

If its not the maf it could be practically anything else. Youll save money the first time being able to figure out whats wrong. From then on youll also save money being able to get the right part the first time. |

So we got a possibility of a bad MAF sensor, TPS sensor, and knock sensor.....
more symptoms. turbo will spool but no boost for that few hundred rpm before it tops at 3k. virtually NO throttle response. when im sitting at a stop light and hit the gas it sits for about ten seconds before stumbling up the rpm ladder super super slow. |

OK so i fixed the throttle response problem. My fuel pressure was extrmely high and it wa flooding like a mo-fo. fixed that but my rpm will only go up to a little over 3k like 3300. When im in neutral however it will go up to 3k, drop, go up to 3500, drop, and so on and so forth. This happens while my foot is on the gas and im not letting off the throttle at all. I hope that makes sense. is the main cause still looking like the MAF sensor? I noticed that their might be a connection problem with my pcm valve.... could this maybe be it?

I hate to bump an old thread, but I'm having the exact same problem. I was sure it was the maf because the ECU was throwing code 12 - Faulty Air flow meter. Replaced it with a known working MAFS, and it still does this. It runs extremely rich, and it won't rev past 3k. Any ideas what the problem could be? I'm going to check the wiring to the MAFS, but I'm beside myself with what it could be.

Take the maf sensor out of the housing and clean it make sure the diodes don't have a layer of dirt on them. Still doesn't mean it hasn't shit the bed.
now when you say it wont rev past 3k, does that mean under a load or like sitting in neutral you cannot rev it over 3k?

my sr20det
im not sure what is going on with my car, while driving my car doesnt let me go pass 3-4000 rpm, and when im about to stop the car almost turns off and idles back to 1,000 rpm.
any ideas on what it can be. i tried unplugging the maf while the car was on to see if it would turn off , and it did, so im not sure what it can be. |
