anyone realize how heavy a stock s14 shift knob is?
Okay, so I know it's pretty difficult to remove the knob, but hmm, the weather has been nice and warm here and it came off SUPER easily. I just used my right hand and surprisingly it just got loose. I've tried harder to open newly sealed pickle jars...lol.
Anyway, I was expecting the knob to weigh around the same as one ones I've had experience with....stock Maxima 4th gen knob, MOMO short anatomic knob, and an S15 knob. I was very wrong!! This knob feels like a one pound dumbell...it is VERY heavy and when I looked inside, it's whole inner construction is pure metal (iron probably). Now my question is, does anyone knob were to find a knob that weighs as much as this one? I really want advice from people who have actually replaced their stock s14 knobs because the knob is heavier than I could've ever imagined. If there isn't a knob that's as heavy as this one, I wouldn't mind keeping this one (and sacrifice good looks..haha) because the weight of the knob greatly affects the ease of the shift. An important note: I was shifting without the knob, and it felt like our Maxima's short throw shifter with the knob ON! it makes that much of a difference...with the stock knob on, the shifts are really smooth, with out it, I can really feel the gears lock. If you're complaing that your shifts are notchy...you can make it smoother and lighter (less effort) by just increasing the weight of the knob! I'd say the stock S14 knob weighs at least 3 times more than any knob (stock and aftermarket) that I've had my hands on. |

the NISMO leather knob hardly weighs anything. I put one on my s13 and the difference is huge. it may make shifting less easy but you can feel the shifts more and looks better.

Good point. REALLY heavy knobs such as the S14 stock knob do the following:
1) INCREASE smoothness 2) REDUCE effort 3) REDUCE notchiness 4) REDUCE feel I guess that's just what I like better. Combined with a short thow, I'd love it. |

i replaced my stock s14 knob with the NISMO black ball type shifter. like stated above this shift knob also weights close to nothing. i really like the feel of the shifts in this knob, but i also do notice the roughness in the shifting of the gears eversince i installed this new one.

I take it that the Trust shift knob is lighter than stock.

The stock shift knob is the quietest one I've found when combined with a B&M shifter. |

its also one of the ugliest shift knobs available. i chose the black nismo shift knob, it had a fair amount of weight to it and fit well with my b&m shifter. |

Razo makes a "drift spec knob" that weighs 700g! But the shape is crap.
I have one of the cylindrical ones waiting for installation, a 300g, feels like it'll shift pretty nice. |

I was sure the Nismo GT Ti was weighted just like the GT. Making the Ti kinda pointless because it costs more/burns your hand. I would just get the Nismo GT.
