How did you like the 8/6k rates on your hatch? I am placing my order monday and still stuck with what rates: 8/6, 9/7, or 10/8. Leaning towards 10/8 since comfort doesn't matter too much for this car.

^Fwiw,

I have FA500's on my daily and track car.

Daily has 8/6, I rarely bottom out... only on really big dips and stuff. Very comfortable.

Track car has 9/7, ive never bottomed out, and ive hit some pretty nasty bumps before with them. Still very comfortable.

just would like to say, i bought some FA500's for my 96 240 earlier this year which i also bought earlier this year. I am an old school guy and have no experience with coilovers. I wouldn't have even bought them if it weren't for the fact that the stock suspension in my 96 was TRASHED; springs, shocks, struts, boots, you name it it was trashed. Looked into replacement KYB's and good lowering springs and everything i needed to get a good suspension back in the car and after coming up with a total price I was only about $200 away from the price of the FA500's. Long story short, after reading alot about them I decided to try them out, as the price wasn't much more and installation and setup were going to be alot easier/hassle-free than assembling struts/shocks and springs and everything else. I must say that after riding on them for several months now I am very happy with them. My car handles very well and it is a pleasure to drive. And knowing that I can adjust ride height whenever I want is a plus. The FA500's are made well and fit nicely. Overall they are a very good product and I would not hesitate to recommend them.

But you'd break more shit being too stiff. Guess you've never seen an S-chassis rip its strut tower off from too stiff of suspension thats DD'd. Seen it a few times in Japan.

I love your car with the Blitz 03s BTW. Def one of the best hatches I've seen on Zilvia.
I had bought a set of 326 power coilovers 14/10k spring rates that I thought would be too stiff but take care of my worries, unfortunately the seller was sketchy so I had to file a dispute and PayPal got me my money back !

I bought these FA 9/7's because icedsole said he runs those rates on a different brand coilover (if I recall correctly) and his car is about the same height my s14 is.

And thanks for the kind words my friend , this s14 I think will be cooler once it's painted !

I loved them man , had them set at halfway stiff up front and the rear almost full stiff and the comfort was still there, bottoming out was Innebitable at that height plus the camber I run though , sacrifices !

Question:

I have already bought my s14 fa's 9/7k, im looking to buy a set of swift springs in 10k and use those for the fronts and move the 9k's to the rear. Since they are valved according to springs rates (correct me if im wrong) would i need to have them revalved to acccomadate the new spring rates?

I'm looking for a stiffer ride so would 10/9k be a good settup? I usually see the fronts 2k higher than the rears, would this make much of a difference since there will only be a 1k difference from to rear?

General rule is you can go up by 2k or down by 2k and be fine without a revalve. I went from 8/6 to 10/8 swifts. feelsgoodman.jpg

So you would be fine. While most S-Chassis coils come with spring rates that are staggered by 2, you most likely wouldn't notice the difference with a 10/9 setup. I've seen some guys on here run a square set of spring rates, some of them track cars.

10/9 should be fine if you want to go pretty low.

Thank you my friend!

Buying 10k swifts since that is stiff on its own , hopefully the swift "feel good" hype is true!

No problem.

I would look into Hyperco springs too. Another top-tier jdm spring brand. If I could go back, I might have given those a shot instead. You'll like swifts, but I've read really good things about Hyperco and they may be a better spring.

Downsides they aren't as readily available over here, and they're slightly more expensive (at least according to an ad in OPTION magazine).

1. I have hyperco springs on my FEAL revalved coils. They were cheaper than Swift.

2. Spring rate is very dependent on tire grip and size, ride height, anti-roll bar choice, roll center correction, etc. Just because they all come with two split or some company uses different rates means nothing for your setup.

That's true. I'm studying Mechanical Engineering with a concentration in Motorsports right now, so I'm slowly beginning to learn some of these things. I won't really be doing much of the Motorsports part until I'm a senior though. But, I can't wait to be able to fully understand how the suspension works, and how to properly be able to design a suspension setup. Hopefully I'll be able to work on our school's formula car's suspension too. We also have some neat suspension programs that I got to take a look at that allow us to see the proper suspension geometry for our designs. It's pretty exciting stuff!

seems like there are quite a few FA500 people here. Would love to hear your thoughts on 11kfront/9krear swift springs weekend car, but not always tracking when out, sometimes canyon sometimes just cruising.

Also curious if you'd go with FA500s with Swift Springs and Bearing mounts or KW V3's if they're the same price.

Would love to hear thoughts asap. Making purchase soon and deal is ticking away haha

I received my 9/7k set up, and then I switched out the 9k's for 10k swift springs that I bought myself from a dealer and not directly from FA. They are 6 inches long. I've yet to preload the spring all the way and this is how much thread I have left on the shock . Wondering of this is safe?

pic of how much thread I have left:

what should I do to fix this if its a problem?

Try preloading it and see if you still have threads left after. If not, time to get 7" long springs.

I have a set of the super lows and holy shit they go way too low

just for reference

This isn't maxed out in front or rear. i have about a half of inch in front and about 2-3 inches in collars, and in the rear, don't even get me started I still had about 4-5 inches PLUS collars.. I wasn't able to drive at this height.

All in all these coils are amazing, I have 10k/8k and they aren't stiff. I'm planning on ordering either 11k/9k or 12k/10k swifts shortly

I talked to Terry, he told me that 12/10 would not need re-valving

FYI thats not me "acting cool" with the vape pen

Anyone have a shot of their front coilover adjusted so as to tuck tire on an 18" wheel in the FRONT on an S13? I am trying to get an idea of how short the front shock housings are. This is very important to my setup.

(already posted in the pic request thread to no avail.)

Thanks.

Fortune Auto 500 for 2009 Infiniti FX50

Im in the market for coils and think I am going to go with Fortune Auto 500's over the BC/Megan which are the only other available ℅ for my car. (2009 Infiniti FX50, yes the SUV)

What spring rates and valving do you guys recommend? I really just daily it (sometimes not even daily) I'm up at law school so really only drive it to get groceries etc and sometimes downtown… then drive it 6.5 hours a few times a year to go home. I drive aggressively but don't think I'm going to track it or anything..

I like a stiffish suspension but still want to be low and comfortable for a "luxury" SUV….

the only problem we have is with the rear suspension, there is no camber adjustment and no available adjustable camber arms aftermarket, and when you lower it even with 1" spring from H&R, the camber out back is already at -2* after correction at alignment shop… so if I want to drop it let's say 2.75" The camber will be -5*ish, which I do not really want on my car….
(if anybody knows of someone that can develop custom arms, lmk)
There was actually one FX that worked for a Fortune vendor a while back that had FA 500's made for his FX, then his company made camber arms/etc. but he will not release to me exactly what they did (he's sort of an ass)

What do you guys recommend? Thanks.

I guess if you really want to lower it without the camber you could have someone extend the rear upper control arms. Find someone who can cut the control arms and weld some metal to extend them. That would take out some of the camber. I have no clue how hard that would be though because I am not familiar with those suspension arms. As for the spring rates, I would just use whatever the standard ones are that Fortune Auto recommends probably.

Im not sure if that will solve it.. the way the suspension works is similar to the 370z and g37, double wishbone up front, etc. Rears have no adjustment for camber. Instead it's designed to add camber for turns, so when you go lower there's more static camber and even more camber on turns, so there needs to be a way to account for that.. I'm not super knowledgeable on it and am sort of regurgitating what others have said…. I'm sort of comfortable enough to get the coils and "wait" for camber correction or be the ginuea pig myself… but the right place to start is with coil overs that will give me the ride that is appropriate, so I want to make sure the springs/valving is "correct"

Here's more info in another thread on the FX forum: http://www.infinitiscene.com/forum/t...opped-2nd-Gens

here are PICTURES OF THE SUSPENSION (it actually differs from the G, however)

Yeah I'm not really sure then, but it shouldn't be a big problem as long as your toe is in spec, the tires should last nearly the same amount of miles, they'll just be worn on the insides instead.

Hey Fortune Auto Guys, would it be possible for you guys to make custom brackets for even more adjustable camber or "demon camber" like this? It looks like these have the same basic design as your brackets.

These have an extreme amount of camber adjustment. lol
