I have a HKS GT2530 with a .86 turbine housing that had bearing failure. I plan to convert to a GT2871. There is a shop that claims they may even be able to machine it out to convert it to a 3071 or perhaps even a 3076.
I am doing my research on here as this is a very popular turbo in the SR20 community and not in the 4G63 community. This is for my 92 Galant VR-4 or I may put it in my Miata but would go with a 2871 for sure if it does go into the Miata.

Tuned my Sr20 today at Autotalent, in Carson CA.
Sr20det -bone stock bottom end -stock Headgasket -stock headbolts -stock valve springs -Stock intake manifold, and exhaust manifold -3in exhaust, with catback -tomei 256 poncams -gt2871r .64 -tomei 740cc injectors -tomei FPR @3.5 bar -Apexi PFC -Aem E85 fuel pump -E85 fuel 368whp @17psi Intake manifold is choking out at around 6,200rpm. A nice Freddy would help out and make it breath better though. Compliments of Koji Arai for tuning this Sr with stock HG, and bolts. Last edited by Dboyizmlg; 08-07-2015 at 11:17 AM.. |

That's with e85? it's right on point with the average pump gas though. 17psi ruff tuned makes 350hp. What is the torque?
34~ or 36~? Sent from a Highly Tuned Note 4.5!!!

Injectors are at 96% duty....( I know) If I had bigger injectors, and a Freddy intake manifold I'm sure it should be another 15-20whp more, at the same boost level. Also, with it breathing more air after 6,300rpm. Peak power (368whp) is at 6,200. After that it starts to slowly take a dive, this is where the Freddy intake comes to play. |

Running it at 4 bar with one fuel pump is going to shorten the life of the pump drastically. People that run 4 bar usually have 2 fuel pumps. |

Btw, I got a bit of info on the water/meth injection tuning with PFC.
Koji has tuned a lot of water/meth With 91 pump. He says it really simple, the only time meth is injected is when it's in boost. He doesn't like it as much though. The reason why, is because some times the meth injection nozzle gets clogged, and then the proper amount of meth is not being injected this causing the motor go boom. Also he stated that when tuning it, when there is a wot pull the first 2 seconds there is a big Jump in knock, then as the meth kicks in, it lowers the knock back down to safe level. Besides that, he is ok with it. Just recommends to replace nozzle tip once a year. |

So why don't people like the new GTX2871R? Same packaging with an updated/improved compressor wheel resulting in a little more power? Seems like the ultimate/top out choice for a T2 bottom mount...
Details please. I won't be purchasing for a long time, but trying to decide between gtx2871r or gtx3076r |

S13 Sr20det
91 pump 18psi boost Power FC Djetro Gtx2867r .64 external gate VQ coilpacks Stock ex mani w/Tial WG Tial bov vta Tomei 256 poncams Supertech valve springs/retainers Apexi HG with ARP studs CP pistons 86.5 w/ 8.5 comp Stock rods w/ ARP bolts Nismo fuel pressure regulator Walbro 255 3" exhaust Tuned by Koji as well. I've been wanting some advice on my setup and since Koji is being mentioned. Given that it's a GTX turbo. People aren't mentioning much on their fuel choice but it seems like everyone is using higher than 91 for the numbers their getting. It seems like I need e85 to get more boost. |

I have some pics on my other computer, I will post them when I get a chance. You need a 45* coupler at the inlet, a section of pipe with a 45* bend IIRC, add ports for breather and recirc, then another coupler at the MAF.

I highly suggest a Freddy intake so it wont drop at high rpm. E85 fuel will be your best friend! For safety reasons, and to achieve more power!!! You should retune on E85 and turn the boost up to 22psi. You could be at 400whp. Talk to Koji, he will be super glad you are tuning with E85. |

My bad, no knowledge of E-85. I'm surprised you can't. You can push 450-500+ on 93 with Nismo/Tomei/HKS 740's. Surprised you can't hit four hundo on the corn...

Yea I'm running the stock intake manifold but I didn't hear much about choking on other setups. I'll get a Freddy intake to fix that. |

There is a calculater on one of the injector websites I forgot Wich one and it calculates what size injector you would need for what size engine for what power goals so you get the right equipment the first time

If you would have an upgraded intake manifold, it would create more power, in addition it would stay solid till redline. Your 337whp is on point for 91 octane, as you know Koji tunes very conservative. Id 1,000cc will max out around 430whp on your sr20, when tuned on E85. |

So how does my gtx dyno graph compare to a 2871r on 91 at around the same boost? I've searched through a few pages and it looks like my torque/rpm levels are lower. I'm not sure if they were on e85. |
