Fix-it ticket: cracked windshield

I got pulled over this afternoon and got a fix-it ticket for a cracked windshield. I guess he couldn't find anything else to ticket me with.

Funny thing is, I went to Speedy autoglass and got a quote for $400 to get it replaced, with new weatherstrip pieces, a few months ago. I just don't have that money for a windshield right now.

Crap.

I guess things cost a little bit more in the area where I live.

And I do have a job, but I'm waiting for a buyout offer. Which means I'll be unemployed, so I need to keep my debt down.

Someone just told me they will sign off on it.

If its on your 89 400.00 is way too expensive unless they are using an OEM Nissan weatherstrip. You can also try your insurance which might cover it or a partial amount. Every windshield replacement has to INCLUDE a new weatherstrip especially on a old car, but I would question the weatherstrip and glass they use for 100.00. You get what you pay for. But times are tough and you got to do what you got to do.

Maybe cheaper just to replace the whole hatch......My brother just picked up a clean hatch for 100 which should be around the same price.

I just dont want to go through the hassle of having to repaint the hatch again. My glass is bad because it has a bunch of metal from cutting and welding in the back. I want to tint the rear window but I dots will show up in it from the pitting.

^Do you know anyone else with the same car you have? You grab a digital camera, take a pic of their windshield. Take your ticket to court, and show the judge your "fixed" windshield. Ticket gets dismissed, and you dont have to shell out money you dont have right now. I did it before... Goodluck with whatever you decide to do.

That might fly in Florida, but in Cali its not that simple...You need to take your car to a CHP office to have it checked out and signed off or any Police station but pay them 13 bucks to do it.

Oh damn, I didnt think about that... Florida is pretty cool about fix it tickets, they let you take a picture and show the judge. When I went the judge didnt even look at the pic, just asked me if I got it fixed, I said yes, he said dismissed lol. Well I guess you have to buy a new windshield then...

Just wanted to update y'all.

I got my windshield replaced, with new weather strip, for just over $200. But I had to use money from my severance package. So its a win-lose situation. Currently looking for new job.

My windshield was so old, the tint on the top was completely faded. It looked like it was still the original glass, because it had the Nissan stamp on it.
