hello all,
well i'm totaly stoked that i found a 240 site on the web... this rocks!!!
ok here's the deal. i was a hondaphile long ago and i bought a crx. the car's been in my possesion for about 8 months now and i've spent about 12000 dollars to make the car run a 12.3 second 1/4 mile at 119 mph. the problem is that the car still looks like shit. so here's the thing. i've been online and i'm really liking the look of the sileighty. what i've been thinking is that i would like to buy a 88-91 240 and do a front end conversion so it would look exactly, or close to, a sileighty. then ofcourse i'd have to do either a sr20det swap or a ka24det to make the thing as fast as or faster than my current car.
here are my q's
1. where's a good place to get a front end conversion and how much will it cost approx?
2. how much can a ka24de engine handle. i've heard that they are truck engines and all, but honestly, how much boost will they hold up to?
3. what's the cost of a sr20det swap and how complicated is something like that to do? i did some of my swap in my crx, is it that straight foreward or pretty complicated?
4. i'm pretty sure that these things can go in a straight line, can you make them handle?
5. what's a good price to pay for a 89-91 240?
thanx in advance guys.
peace

I am not an expert by any means but i will attempt to answer. first of all no idea on the conversion. second i have seen 2.4l pushing 350-400hp (without no2). as far as the engine swap, i am with West, i like the 2.4l. i like the low end torque, i like the way it sounds, (much deeper in my opinon compared to hondas and i assume the 2.0). from what i've read and heard it's about 5000-8000 for the engine swap. i would rather spend the 8g's and add a turbo and many other things to my 2.4l it seems like there is a lot more support out there these days for us. my suspension is stock, i do have 18's on it though and it handles like a champ, i am dropping it 1.5-2 inches next month. lastly i just checked the kelly blue book site and it says you'll pay anywhere from 2500-6000 for a 240 in the years you asked about. welcome to nissan. is this a novel or what!

There is a 15HP difference between the 89-90 SOHC 12 Valve and the 91+ DOHC 16 Valve. If your going to swap older 89-90 engine, just do the SR20DET. The price to swap a KA24DE and a SR20DET would only be a little more exspinsive.
