Rb25 lifter question

Okay guys so here is the deal "sigh"

I was gonna go for my 500whp power goal without taking off the head. My uncle talked me into having him flowjet it at his work for free so I figured what the hell. Well now that the heads off I was saying what the hell and going to get poncams. Well after talking to a few people they are saying I cannot reuse the stock lifters/buckets and rawbrokerage has lifters that are 28$ a piece and I need 24 of them. Almost 700$ for lifters, is there any input you guys can give me on this? Should I stay stock cams and keep the stock valve springs and all, considering im only going for 500whp and have a stock bottom end as well?

Poncams are drop ins...shouldnt have to get new lifters or buckets. Procams are not drop ins and would require stiffer springs as a minimum.

So what your saying is Poncams are drop in? As in not changing the valve springs as well? I was talking to my buddy and he said that puttng the poncams in without new lifters/buckets will cause them to wear faster considering they already have been worked in with the stock cam lobes?

They make PONcams and PROcams. The PON are drop in. The PRO are not. For 500hp you don't have to touch the upper end. If you want to by all means it's not going to hurt it, but I'd be more worried about the ringlands, head lift, and oil pump issues before slapping some cams in.

What I've always said for head work is. Why just spend the money to put only cams in? You're there already so might as well do a full head job.

Im only trying to make 500whp and my uncle is polishing the head and knocking the exhaust hump out of it for free so thats why I even am messing with the head. Cams for 500$ isn't a big deal to me but paying 500$ for valve springs 600$ for lifters is not justifiable for my power goal. With a port polish, poncams, 5 angle valve job, new valve stem seals, ARP studs I think that is plenty for my 500whp goal wouldn't you say? And I know what you mean about the ringlands and oil pump. This car will only see a few highway pulls here and there and I wont be over revving it due to the quick spool of my turbo I have I wont have to. As for the ringlands im going to trust them, I just picked up an AEM water/meth kit to help with detonation so hopefully they last. If not a full motor build will be in the future since I already have everything else ready to go.

You can run cams with I believe 8.5-9 lift on the oem lifters before they need to be switched out.

Yeah I know what you mean, I would do the same cause head work sure adds up quick!

Oiling issues won't be a big concern then, except I would have an extended crank collar fitted if you're not already. You don't have to bounce off the rev to snap those gears in the oil pump..I would be skeptical with stock ringlands and 500hp..arp studs will keep your head gasket sealed but I mean how longs a piece of string? It's gotta come to an end sometime. Since the heads off, if you can, I would address the ringlands for a piece of mind.

I'm shooting for 500whp with my rb25. I'm swapping in an rb26 rotating assembly to fix the ringlands and oil snout problems.

Yea, I dont wanna get into a full engine build here. I want it to be done by the summer so Im keeping the bottom end stock. If im gonna build the bottom end im going to do it right. If it blows up on me I may go with an rb30 block anyways.
