Transmission into pilot bushing
Hey guys I'm in the middle of my auto to manual swap, I'm in the process of putting the transmission in and it won't slide into the pilot bushing easily. I'm not sure if I should force it in there or if I should drop it and look at the pilot bushing and possibly get a new one. So to anyone who's done the swap, is it supposed to be a tight fit to get it in there ? Or should it be an easy slide in ?
Thanks ! |

I take it this is a s13 maybe and its a pain in the ass to remove/install the trans..usually what I do is lower the front crossmember a little and have one person on the tail shaft and the other on the bell housing..then wiggle it in.it sucks but can be done.and its a pretty tight fit in there..hope this helps.

Did you actually remove the auto pilot bushing and replace it with a new MT one?

Get a jack and a short piece of 2x4 and jack up on the crank pulley to tilt the engine backwards. Chances are is that the shaft is getting caught on a lip.
The trans shouldn't be that difficult to mate w/ the engine.

I do the same thing effectively, but I loosen the motor mounts and then stuff a 4x4 block between the downpipe and the car which holds the motor tilted back.

+1 for loosening the motor mounts. Forgot to add that part.
