BadBob's SR to LS Drift Build
Well at the last drift event (Midnight Madness) at Gateway Raceway in 2013, my SR decided to give up from what I suspect to be a spun rod bearing. I ran this SR for 3 years and never gave me many problems.. But instead of rebuilding I decided to make the switch over to a new platform for the 2014 season..
My SR setup was your basic GT2871.64 setup, made great power and absolutely loved it, in a way I am sad to see it go.. So I pulled the SR and began my part out I picked up my F Body LS from a good friend, and is already built, but I decided to freshen up a few things before the season starts. Engine Specs. MS4 Camshaft Texas Speed Valve train (springs, pushrods etc) Speed pro forged pistons LS6 Intake manifold ARP everything haha.. Fidanza Lightweight flywheel Sikky Trans mount Sikky Driveshaft Sikky Headers Canton Racing Oil pan Custom engine mounts Tuned ECU and a fully built T56 I decided to purchase.. Wiring Specialties Pro wiring harness Spec stage 3 clutch MSD starter Sikky Fuel filter kit Mishimoto radiator/fan shroud kit Fidanza replacement friction plate and a few pics.. and the current chassis setup.. Tein Super Street Coilovers Tein Pillowball Upper Mounts Energy Suspension Master bushing Kit (All bushings replaced) Energy Suspension Polyurethane Subframe Bushings ISIS Toe Arms ISIS Traction Arms Adjustable Rear Upper Control Arms Adjustable Tension Rods Wilwood 12.2” 4POT Front Brake kit (Arizona Z Car) STRI Electronic Oil Press Gauge STRI Electronic Fuel Press Gauge STRI Electronic Water Temp Gauge Im going to send my headers to be ceramic coated next week and Im still waiting for my wiring harness to arrive, but should be here shortly. More to come Last edited by badbob2121; 02-09-2014 at 03:32 PM.. |

Long time no see BadBob! It's good to see that you've been drifting for a while now but you've kept your car in great shape. Are you planning on investing in a bucket seat at any point?

Seems only logical to leave the SR platform and go to the big boys LS. I want an LS swap eventually, but i will use my SR until it craps out. I love how your 240 has turned out. Clean and black always looks good man. keep it up.

Nice bro.. Be careful with that MS4 Cam.. I was talking to a few people about that cam and was advise not to get it. Was told it was a very aggressive cam for drifting.. So I sold it and sat down with Texas Speed Shop and they advised me to go with the Torquer V3 cam..
In for numbers though and how it preforms, cause if it works great for you I might switch..lol

My buddy, who I bought the LS from, has ran this cam setup for 2 PRO-AM seasons (and actually just earned his FD license) and even took it to his engine builder to have all the rings, bearings, gaskets, etc, replaced before the 2013 season started, and the builder told him there was no visible/unusual wear and everything looked great.
So I am going to stick with the MS4, and I plan on hitting a dyno shortly after its up and running to see what it makes. I will post my results |

I picked up some ARP Flywheel bolts I got the new friction plate mounted on the flywheel mounted the flywheel and new Spec 3 Clutch and then I also put on the new MSD starter (so purdy) Well thats all for today, the weather had been cold as shit lately and its hard to stay motivated to get shit done in my tiny freezing cold garage haha.. Im still waiting on my wiring harness and I should be dropping the headers off soon as well. |

Well I finally picked up my headers from Gateway Powder coating from being Ceramic Coated and they look great!!
(not sure why they look silver in these pics) Also picked some some MLS Gaskets as well.. My Wiring Specialties Harness also showed up New plugs are wires and everything is ready to drop in. My schedule is pretty crazy, as I work full time, Im a full time student in a Master's program, and Im also a single parent, plus the 10deg weather and snow dont help. But should be up and and running soon. I also have a few FLCA and Knuckle mods planned, but want the LS to be up and running before I go there.. Last edited by badbob2121; 02-08-2014 at 08:04 PM.. |

So I was planning on waiting to have the LS running before I invested in any steering & knuckle mods, but I started a conversation with a well known fabricator and shop owner (Mike at Nocturnal Motorworks) about his knuckle and FLCA mods, I was sold.
I found a set of knuckles cheap locally and ordered brand new MOOG FLCA'S and dropped them off. Before: and after but they wont be put on until the LS is up and running.. and after spending $100 on fluids and picking up a new Welded.. I have everything ready to go, and the weather has been clearing up and snow has been melting so I have plans to drop the engine in this weekend if all goes well. Well this week has been awesome, I just received and accepted a new job offer this afternoon for a new position as a digital imaging operations supervisor for an amazing international company, so its been a great week so far
but I just got my K&N Filter and Earls fitting in today for my Fuel pressure gauge and the finished intake setup and the Sikky corvette fuel filter/regulator kit with the new fitting in place Then I went to install the AN fitting on the fuel rail and notice something wasnt right.. my LS didnt have the typical LS1 fuel rail and had a barb style fitting on the feed line.. This isnt right at all So I took it all apart and found a local correct LS1 Fuel rail and I am picking it up in a few hours and a shot of my workspace (I need more space haha) Well the weather is awesome and I plan on dropping everything in tonight/tomorrow morning, so more updates to come shortly. |

Today was so nice out, I decided to take a half day off from work and come home and get some work done.
Fuel rail all fixed Since I have to unbolt the steering shaft to install the driver's side header, I figured I would replace that bushing as well. Picked up from Forced Fab. and all done.. So I got the sikky fuel kit all hooked up and also put on the new fresh plate welded diff and here's where I finished the day.. I have no plans except working on the car tomorrow, so it should be a good day |
