Moving from London to Bay Area want to buy Koukai 240SX
Hi - I'm new. I've read a few posts and looked through the marketplace but I couldn't find a similar thread....
I'm going to be moving from the UK to the Bay Area and I'm hoping to buy a 97/98 Koukai 240SX when I arrive. My desires from the car are that it's stock, very clean and that its not going to cause me much trouble for a couple of years on my daily 60 mile round trip to work. 1. What's the chance of finding a Koukai with 50k miles or less? 2. How many miles can these cars do before things start to break? 3. How much am I going to need to pay for a really mint one (I'm talking garaged California car with very low miles)? 4. How often do examples that good come up for sale, and where should I be looking? Here? Ebay? Craigslist? 5. How reliable is a 12 y/o 240SX really going to be when putting significant miles on it? Thanks for help - sorry for the 20 questions format! |

Money talks. Less then 50k miles is going to be damn impossible to find. Most cars that are 4 years old here have that sort of mileage.
Mileage is pointless compared to condition. You are commuting 60 miles a day... why are you trying to get a mint low mileage car? It won't be that way in one year. Watch the classifieds, you can see what pops up. Stock cars anymore are no longer owned by nice gentlemen or middle age ladies but kids to poor to modify there JDM-DRIFTO 240! You are better off going for a modified one that you can track the owners history. At least he will have replaced ball-joints, rebuilt the engine blah blah depending on the car you are looking at. Totally web-forum stalk them, find all there posts, try and track down their Facespace so forth. You'll get a great idea on how they took care of the car. |

Yeah...I could also get a year 2000 one here. And low miles. And it'd cost me $10k. Sad. So about this engine - is it terrible? It looks like I could get a mint V6 Accord from 2006 for $15k...not as cool as a 240sx but if it's just really slow then it's less interesting...

If you're ball parking stuff around the $15k mark, a 350z is well within your reach. If you look for 350Z's from private owners, you can get a 2004-2006 350Z with around 50k for that price. There is (or was) a 2005 w/ 44k in my area for $18k obo so I know the 350Z's are out there in your price range w/ your milage. Plus you get double the hp of the 240sx.
