ABS Diff???
My car is a 98 S14 non-abs 5 speed,,,
I'm in the process of installing my Drive Shaft Shop one piece aluminum drive shaft (among a million other things) and its too long, I called DSS and gave them measurements of the drive shaft they sent me and they say i have the correct part. They keep insisting that i have abs and that the abs drive shaft is shorter.... My car definatly does not have abs but the stock drive shaft i removed is .5" shorter than the non-abs DDS shaft. Although the car was stock when i bought it, i'm starting to wonder if maybe the previous owner had a abs diff and drive shaft on the car for some reason. How do i know if my diff is a abs or non-abs?

Sounds like the previous owner swapped in ABS driveshaft and differential. Not too knowledgeable on S14's, but I want to say that none of the Non-ABS models came with a VLSD from factory (I could be wrong though).

Thanks for the pic! Its nice to actually be able to see the difference between the abs and non-abs diffs, mine was definitely non-abs open diff.
I'm still not sure why my stock drive shaft is a half inch shorter than the DSS shaft. I measured the DSS shaft while i was on the phone with them and they swear it is the correct length for a non-abs car and the only other option is the shorter abs shaft. Does anyone have exact measurements of abs vs non-abs drive shafts?

the non-abs driveshaft should be about 3/4 inch longer than abs shaft. There should not be a problem installing your driveshaft because there should be enough play in the tranny mount to fit it in. I have been driving my car with a swapped j30 vlsd(3/4" inch longer than non-abs) and a non-abs solid driveshaft for about 6 months without a problem.

I'm starting to believe i have a freak car on my hands... I have already verified that my car has no ABS and has a Non-ABS diff but now i'm starting to thing my car some how has a ABS drive shaft....
On another site i found this for drive shaft lengths.. Quote:
Now when i measure OEM drive shaft vs the DDSS Non-ABS drive shaft using a tape measure, my OEM drive shaft measure roughly 9/16" (.5625") shorter from the diff flange to the yoke flange. Does this mean my car is a fream and uses a ABS drive shaft and a Non-ABS diff??? Here is a pic of the difference in length. (the other ends are flush against my tool box) _________________
