lug adapters?

sorry if this is in the wrong section on this forum, i have just recently become a member on here and havnt learned of everything yet. and feel free to move this thread if it should be.

ok so i was thinkin about buying some 4 to 5 lug wheel adapters, but i wanted to find somone with some experince with them first. are they a bad idea? are they sturdy enough? my dad has a $hit load of ford wheels layin around the house that are really wide. all different styles and what not. but the main thing is that i wanted to kno are these things safe to run on a car that will ocasionally get drifted and be daily drivin. also my car is a 89 coupe.

Thanks for any help.
And again sorry if this is in the wrong section.
Andy.

Ask yokotas13, I think he advertised some before I think. Doesn't hurt to ask but I'm pretty sure he can get some with considerable thickeness unlike those super thick ebay ones.

Yeah the argument is not whether the 4lug->5lug conversion is dangerous, it's whether the spacing is dangerous to the hub. The wheel generates a lot of torque on the hub, and that torque is magnified significantly when you move the wheel further away from the hub with a spacer.

That being said, I know tons of drifters that use 50mm (over 2") spacers. That doesn't mean it's good for your hubs, but the general consensus is that it won't be the thing that makes you total your car some day.

Why would you want to go 5 lug on a spacer anyways?

People go 5 lug to get wheels with decent width and low offset.

With a huge spacer you'll have to get wheels with higher offset.

Sadly. Wish there was something made that would indeed guarantee a good totaling.

Unless there are 100mm or 120mm widebody panels out there, it wouldn't look good IMO.

FALSE why would a 4 to 5 lug spacer be 2.5inc thick when a bolt on spacer usually starts around 20mm... there is no difference just adding more holes lol

I've seen them (not online, in person) with a thickness about 30mm. And if he's running 18x7.5", they're most likely FWD wheels with FWD offsets, so yeah +40 is the norm. He'll be fine.

Even if you space the living shit out of them, 18x7.5 on anything widebody IS going to look rediculous.

They look stupid on stock fenders.

You can have them custom made, the smallest would probably be 20mm or so, and I'm guessing it will cost about 60-80$ for a pair.
http://www.wheeladapter.com/home.asp

It's kind of cool because you can quickly and easily switch between 4 and 5-lug wheels.

i had some 30mm adapters at one time. Felt fine, just didn't like the fact that there was somethere there you'd have to tighten and one extra thing that can come loose.

You all talk like the people who would be buying the 4 to 5 lug adapters will have money. If their ass is too broke to afford five lug and wheels as it stands now, what makes you think they will be able to afford the adapters and baller rims?

The people who would purchase this are no different than the people who purchase 4 lug bolt on spacers and incest looking rims.

Only difference is they will have better wheel selection.

eh its not like a 5 lug conversion cost that much anyways plus during the process you can upgrade your brakes.spacers are weak and probably not the safest things to have if you daily drive your car.

If YOU woulda read up above what I said, it was pertaining to people complaining about this not fitting aggressively sized wheels.

Now what does that horrible mess of a comment you just posted have to do with me?
