Just ordered an SR20det from JDM Nagoya Auto...

Well, after doing a research on a couple of places on getting the engine I just decided to go with JDM Nagoya from ebay and yes I know they a Canadian store but they were the only place online that would be willing to give me a compression test. I tried to get JDMenginecorp, japaneseengineimport , and jspectmotor to send me a compression test but they would not give me one so I just gave up on them and moved on. All I wanted was to know what motor was I going to get before sending a full payment.

Anyways, I made the transaction pretty smooth for JDM Nagoya I already saw the photos of the engine so I asked them for a compression test they posted a video of the serial along with the result on youtube the very next day and I followed up with a payment shortly after.

NOW, here is what I'm concern about at the moment....first of all they wanted me to make a payment on their website so they can save the EBAY fee which I agreed then I made a transaction through Paypal and on their AD on ebay they stated this was the actual photo of the engine and so was the video. I mean I was happy with it , it looked very clean and had a good compression test result that's why I wanted to get it from them.

Anyways, for whatever reason I decided to double check with them and sent an email if this was the going to be the same engine in the video and this is what they said

" yes you will get the exact same engine in the pictures and video unless if it does not pass the final check up before it leave the wearhouse, we make to give our costumer 100% satisfaction, we do make a final check in all our engine and parts before they leave the wearhouse. i will contact the werahouse for you to make sure, they open only at noon today.
Our office and the wearhouse are not at the same place.
thank you and have a great time. "

Maybe I'm just being paranoid but why would they advertised an " actual item " if there is another processed that they have to go through before deciding if it's good enough to be sent out.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hvFDph6BOyg

Thats the compression test

and this is the photo

http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?...:X:AAQ:CA:1123

another thing is that I'm not even sure if this is actually a redtop with a black Vale cover since it doesn't even have the fins near the head , around the value covers , but I didn't car I just wanted this engine.

Should I be worried here? Maybe I'm just a little paranoid since I just spend about 1900+ dollars

I'll let you guys know how it goes once I get an engine.

yeah you should be worried, i hope it turns out well. look it over really good before signing for it from the shipper and refuse the shipment if it looks bad. If that goes well, inspect it well before installing...pull all the plugs, remove the valve cover, remove the oil pan, and pull the transmission off

Good Idea, first thing I will check is the serial number. Now my question is what if I do not sign it ? will they ship it back or will they hold on to it until I sign it because I know these deliver dudes will not what to wait around for me to do all of that.

That is good to hear, do you know if they actually send it to another location for the "final check" or ...do you think they trying to pull something here....

Japan direct another Candian company that routinely ships stateside would've given you a compression test also. That jsut food for thought for future purchases.

I just had a broker from the the JDM NAGOYA side calling and asking me for my SSN before they can ship it out, is this shit normal? I still haven't heard whether or not they will send me the original motor shown to me in the photos and videos.

These dudes are making me paranoid right now.

Buying a used engine like that is hit or miss.... some companies get better condition engines than others but they still occasionally send out duds without knowing it. Compression tests don't necessarily mean the engine will be good.

I purchased an engine over the summer from a company called LKQ. They said compression was 180 across the board, only had 90k and was from an auto. I felt confident I had a good engine.

I get it installed and sure enough it runs like shit... Tear everything apart and find one of the crank balancers badly scored along with the inside of the block. The only thing that was useable on the engine was the head/upper pieces.

Because I took the engine apart they would only give me a partial refund.

I was PISSED because I paid extra for a warranty and I was stuck with no engine.

NEVER BUY FROM LKQ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just hope the company you bought from has good customer service and is willing to work with you if something does go wrong.

I have never heard of someone asking for a SSN for something like that... Think about it.... why would they need that? BE CAREFUL WHAT INFO YOU GIVE.

Hey, yea I actually did provided my SSN, because he started he needed it before the shipment? I was a little confused so I paused for a minute and asked " over the phone?" then told me I could fax it as well.

I mean he didn't sound sneaky or anything but I was just wondering why they would need something like that since the payment has already been sent and everything was good.

And yea I know that this is a hit or miss when getting these engine that is okay I'm just trying to get an engine that was presented to me.

Anyways I'm just going to wait and see what they send me if its the same engine I'm not going to worry about it. If they send me a different engine without consulting me could I get my money back through the paypal?

If I can I would have to pay for the shipping fee to ship the motor back correct?

I don't know man .. I think I'm overreacting/over thinking I should probably give it sometime and see how this goes.

thanks for all the responds and suggestions guys.

you should call your financial institutions to post a fraud awareness alert since you were not smart enough and gave some businessman in Canada your SSN. dont you have parents or anything? i cant believe youre 24 and just give your SSN to someone youre buying a motor from. wow.

SSN? Are you kidding me! BIG FRAUD ALERT HERE. You may find credit being pulled in your name half way across the world by now. I'm still trying to clear fraud on my wifes credit from back in 2008, not fun. Don't delay and contact your financial institution. If you simply cancle the order they will slap it on your credit and you will have it being tag on your credit full of inquires from collection agency who buy out the account time and time again. You Must report it as fraud and receive a satisfaction peace from the courts releasing you from the debt. Don't say I didn't warn you. My wife gave some random person on the phone her info while we were living in florida and her credit got pulled in jersey. BE WARNED ACT NOW!!!!!

I hear you guys I tried to think positive and thought just maybe it had something to do with going across the boarder, but this dude was calling me from NY with a 518 area code, anyways I should have known better it's just that I have never purchase an item like this before so I thought it was necessary.

Its just better to be safe than sorry. Take precaution and search the BBB for any funny business on their part. I can ship any thing to anyone in the world and will never ask for a SSN#...ever, The question will never come up on a shipping application for customs especially from Canada where we can walk across the border freely with out border patrol not like mexico.

Thanks guys, yea shortly after you guys told me about this I immediately called my bank and to put my account on noticed and asked them to authenticate every time I call in , changed my online ID and turn on fraud alert etc.

So my bank is pretty much on lock at the moment.

Yea, I should have known better just that I already payed for the engine so I wanted my engine, it didn't help that this dude told me he needed that info to be able to ship it out.

But next time I'll know.

Thanks again,

I'll let you guys know how it goes.

they dont have anything to do with your current bank account.. the problem is creating all kinds of new accounts/credit lines with your information.. i know i've seen commercials for the life lock bs or whatever it is to protect you even if your SSN gets stolen, i would probably be looking in to something like that asap before they go out and apply for loans/credit cards/new bank accounts etc..

I had my identity stolen as well... only I was lucky and had a private investigator call me about the issue and got everything sorted out before any real damage was done.

Apparently I had 3 cell phones and was trying to purchase a house haha.... I figured someone probably got my info from all the job applications I was turning in at the time... It's easy to sell info (especially illegals) on the black market.

Kinda sucks because now you've got a monkey on your back....

you know there are a handful of places that will have sr20s in stock in the DFW area, and it'd be alittle cheaper, like 15-1600 a swap

Yea, well I went a head and stayed up doing a little research and found that there are 3 major credit bureaus and went a head and freeze my credit at these 3 companies Equifax, Transunion, and Experian so that no one can open up any kind of account without a pin..not even me.

just for precautions , cost me 10 dollars each to lock up my credit.

- Nah, I didn't want to blow up there phone it wouldn't do me any good, I was just confused as to why they would need my S/N. I didn't want to accuse them or anything like that, so I'm just going with the flow and do stuff here and there to protect myself because since it was my fault for giving out that information.Anyways, I do understand that unexpected things like this happens all the time so that's why i took everyone advice.

herbieS13 you know there are a handful of places that will have sr20s in stock in the DFW area, and it'd be alittle cheaper, like 15-1600 a swap

Yea I know it's probably going to be a little cheaper, but I thought online would be more convenient since I work all the time and on my days off I just want to relax you know. I work at a call center and that shit can be extremely stressful. If I knew that there was going to be some kind of hassle I would have just went local.

Rule #1, always look for somebody local or atleast close enough to drive to for engine swap.
Yea, definitely.

bro i'm sorry, but buying something from canada and then giving your ssn to someone in new york is just plain stupid. do what the fella above me said, thats the advice i was going to give.
Yea, it was but I just thought that the engine was at the "final check" location so I just accepted the call it was not my area code so I knew it was them because I do really have anyone calling me. That's when I was asked for the info. I didn't find out it was from NY til I actually look at the area code online.
