Texas Mile
This weekend at Beeville, TX the Texas Mile is holding one of their events.. Essentially a 1.5 mile straight that is one long ass drag strip, you are timed at the one mile mark with half mile to slow that beast down.. the record holder is a Ford GT at 265.. last year a 6 cyl 240 s14 with nitrous did 124...
Anybody have any idea what a t28, 550inj, fmic, stock SR (about 285-300hp) might do? Anyone have any experience with the Texas Mile?? It looks like a fun couple of days... and an opportunity to blow out some carbon (or rings). |

i want to try a standing mile real bad...i don't know if i have enough gearing for it tho..i trap 134 in the quarter so i'd expect a 170-190 mph if my gearing would let me

its not just gearing at that point, mainly aerodynamics... wind is a bitch at those speeds. managing lift and drag and keeping it stable is tough. I had an old vette that would actually porpoise after 120... have to tape up all the seams, keep the nose down, right tire pressures, some downforce on the rear, clean the undercarriage with some sheet metal... lots of tricks to get them fast.

i did a standing mile in my car a few years back.
I hit the rev limiter on the v8 at 7200 rpm in 5th with a j30 rear end and a 26 inch tall tire right at the 3/4 mile mark. If you do the math thats somewhere between 185-190 Mph. I coasted the last 1/4 mile after i hit the rev limiter and crossed the lights at 172. I noticed no lift or stability issues on my car. It did rattle a lot though. I posted a video a while back..

Thats pretty damn fast... was that a v8 240? obviously gearing is a key to going fast... my old vette had a 3.02 so it was fast, not quick....
anybody do this in a 240 SR????????? |

Heres the video i was talking about. You can see when i hit the rev limiter in 5th right past 3/4 mile, with the right rear gear I'm sure i could have done 200mph.

I'm not sure if it was the Texas mile or not but a ford gt set the standing mile record at 287mph this month. I've always wanted to do one of these events

I've always thought standing mile stuff was awesome, i would think in the 140-150 ball park area. alot has to do with traction as well. if you spin alot the car wont go anywhere.

The last official run that I know of was Mullets' Twincharged Ford GT doing ~267.xxmph and before that was a Twin Turbo Camaro SS ('95) built by LMR that did 247.xxmph
