Royal Purple MT oil? yes or no?
I have researched this and have come to the conclusion that anything GL4 will be fine. But my dad picked up some royal purple stuff that said "for use in GL4 and GL5 models". I would go pick some GL4 only stuff up but its Christmas eve and no one is open till Thursday.
The GL5 worries me. I have heard that GL5 fill fuck up synchros. So what I'm asking here is for a definite yes or no on this royal purple. I don't care about the smoothness of the shift, or the oil operating temp, all I care about is if it will fuck up my tranny or not. |

Royal Purple "The engine builder's favorite motor oil"... because your engine will be rebuilt after one season. I've said it over and over again, motor oil is NOT the place to gain horsepower.
I know this is trans fluid but it all bears the same name. I do not buy into their products and I never will. Stick with a known brand. Stick with a name brand. Pay more. Feel good when you park your ride at night. |

Using GL5 ina GL4 tranny, will fuck up the Brass Syncros over time.
RP is too thin a Gear Oil IMO. I had that shit in my tranny 2nd and 4th started grinding really bad in within a year and a half. Swapped in some Mobile 1 and grinding lessend but damage was already done. New tranny running M1 for 3 years no issues. Buddy had the same problem except in all his gears. drained it out put in Mobile 1 his grinding went away.

alright, but as the original question said, is this GL4/5 ok? It won't eat my synchros? I don't really care about the thinness. I just want to know if the fact that it can be used in GL5 vehicles an issue.

Order Redline MT90 or Amsoil 75-90.
Wait 3 days to save your headache and listen to what this guy is telling you. DO NOT use Royal Purple, use what I said above or go to a Nissan dealership and buy 4qts of there gear oil. He's answered your question 3 times. You don't care about the thinness, ok think about that statement, if its too thin wouldn't common sense tell you when it heats up it isn't going to lube your gears?

I wouldn't use royal purple toilet paper.
I hate when car guys at work say they use royal purple, because its impossible to convenience them that its junk. Its hard enough when 10 people on a forum all say no and no one is in its favor. |

Royal Purple is way overpriced for what it is. Like stated, wait a few more days and invest in some redline, mobile, M7, or Amsoil. Is getting to drive your car a few days sooner worth corroding your synchros for?

Amsoil 75/90, best stuff I've used in my trannies. You can buy it online and have it within a few days.

All gl5 says "meets gl4 standards"... All of it is crap for Nissan transmissions.
As far as I know, the only thing other then oem nissan fluid is, redline and amsoil |

Yes, it must be GL4. GL5 is not a phosphor/bronze metal friendly fluid and will destroy your baulk rings and synchros.

I use Redline MT90, and its great. The local dealer was selling it for $13 a quart, but I guess he realized hes the only guy in town that was selling it and jacked up the price to $45 a quart. So now I will be ordering mine online.
