5x10 (Suspension Help Please)
Slight Background:
Two years ago I got my "new" hatch and everything was straight with the suspension, had a few Upgrades, I've since added and replaced. A bit back I was drifting in the lot after work and was finishing my slide, but let off a little early (Live 'n Learn) and sent me into a round Island that I was sliding around, it was like a 2 inch Curb and i hit it at about 5mph or so with brakes locked and kinda hopped on top of it. Well it was just with the driver side. With looking at it after, it dislodged the spot welds of my radiator support and has nothed my driverside suspension about 3/4 of an inch back, with the passanger side being "okay". I have NISMO Power Brace, SPL Tension Rods & ST Front Sway Bar, so nothing bent, just tweaked the set. After getting it as squared away as possible, temporarily, I went to get my alignment set and was turned down because I needed new Ball Joints (worn), Tie Rod Ends (worn) & Front Coils (Previously Blown due to street wide Pot Hole hidden by fresh snow) before they'd touch it, because itd obviously be pointless. Well, I lost my job and just got the time/cash to get started on fixing what needed fixing... So I got a pair of OEM Replacement Tie Rod Ends, new in box, $30.00 Shipped, to make good before I upgrade, and just got to replace them today, MOOG Ball Joints next wekend. So clearly with my driveside suspension knocked back my toe was off, so before I fix the remaining needed and am able to reset my whole suspension and go get my alignment, I will just adjust my Tie Rod end out a little bit to have wheel straight... So I replace the end on the passanger side first, 5 threads showing on Inner Tie Rod. Installed, done. Go to Driverside, I count 10 threads on the Inner Tie Rod... ???... The "accident" didn't cause it because it would have either bent the rods or stripped the threads, neither or which were done; so that means that when the alignment was done last, it was adjusted to be straight, with one showing 5 threads, the other showing 10... Why would this, how could this, be? Was the rack not centered when aligned originally? Back before when all was good, the steering wheel was straight, car didn't fade or pull, all seemed perfect, so why the 5x10 difference? Let me know what you guys think it could be? I plan on doing TEIN or OEM Z32 Inner Tie Rods with SPL Tie Rod Ends when I get stable again, so if it is the rack or something within the setup, I hope it will be readjusted then, if I can't do it now... Thanks in advance.
