hub adapter?

i was wondering if i did do a aftermarket steering wheel with a quick release do i really need the hub adapter? i know the hub adapter is for safty (cause it can collapse) but i will be in a full harness and if it does the job right i shouldnt hit the steering wheel. the reason i am asking is because i do not have very much room for spacers (hub adapter + 50mm quick release). i have a full cage (my bucket seat can go so far back). i have long legs but a short torso. is there anything out there like this http://e30m3performance.com/installs...ub/qr-hub1.htm for the 240sx s13. or is there a way that i can connect just the quick release without the hub adapter? this may be a stupid question so thanks for the help if any.

you could cut down the arms on the hub (on a momo hub) and shorten it. then, reweld the 6 bolt hub ring to the shortened arms. if you've got a hkb hub where it's solid, same thing, cut it down and reweld.

if that's too much work, just get a thinner quick release.
