Best way to get to around 400 hp on a sr20

I just got a s14 with a sr20 blacktop in it. Im trying to get around 400 hp out of it. What parts would be needed to produce somewhere around 400 hp? Any help on this would be great.

dude, keep the jwt ecu and just have jwt retune it if I had to choose between jwt and emanage. don't go emanage, imo. info for 2871 setup, click: http://zilvia.net/f/tech-talk/124925...-sr-motor.html ...there's more to getting 400whp. You probably want it to last too. cooling, efficiently putting the hp down, reliability, etc...seriously, read around the forum.

Don't listen to people who say 2871R, unless they mean Brake HP (or at the flywheel).

Some people have been able to pull off 400whp on the dot with the smaller varient but it is more the exception than the rule.

I suggest looking into the 50 Trim T04E compressor wheel with a T3 turbine housing, these turbos are extremely affordable if you don't mind going with a simple top mount manifold setup.

The other suggestion I have is the GT3071R or GT3076R bottom mount varient, we have tuned a few up to 430-450 whp!!! on Stock bottom end and on a dyno dynamics (hear breaker dyno).

Just some other things to keep i mind.

Most important of all is TUNING TUNING TUNING.

Whether is be local tuner, or high quality wideband to fine tune the fuel map, and getting a solid timing map from a map builder, or doing some serious dyno time with a tuner who knows his EFI. Tuning makes all the difference in longevity, low end power and power band curve and peak power.

I second this! Steve just got done working on my base tune for this exact same setup. My goal is to hit as close to 400whp as possible.

Precision 50trim
Peakboost Manifold Setup
272 Cams
Freddy Manifold (came with the car)
MAP/AIT
AEM EMS
Built Block and Upgrade springs, retainers etc.

Now if it wasnt for me being cheap after spending a fortune and reusing the water pump which turned out to be bad/leaking this thing would be running.

Ignore the search comments!
Threads like this are necessary everyonce in a while, since newer parts come out people discover new setups, etc

I would say get a
gt30 or bigger size turbo to guarantee the 400hp mark
Add cams
850cc injectors
Good quality manifold
3" exhaust
Fmic
Q45 throttle body
Z32 maf,
To keep it simple i would say get a jwt tuned ecu and enjoy it!
You can also get cams from jwt, they are awesome

I would highly recommend getting forged piston/rod combo and ras

You will
Also
Need a 6puck clutch or if you can afford it a twin plate would be best

sell sr20 make about 2 grand profit, save 4000 more dollars install proper ls1 with t56 transmission. never worry about dying turbos and always have 400hp on tap daily drivable and no cops giving you tickets for adjustable blow off valves.

bish bosh boosh.

That is also a very good idea!
Also you could buy someones setup
Who
Already has 400-500 hp built motor, ive seen a fee in the $4000-5000 mark
Which isnt a bad price, either way you go you will end up spending way more if you build it up yourself from scratch.

If you do it yourself, you have the discretion of doing it when you feel like. It doesn't have to be built quickly. A $7000(random #) build over a long period of time is easier on you, than dropping $5000 on a single buy. You end up paying more but the stress is less. For me atleast, since that kind of money doesn't come by too often.

sure hope you also have a wideband. i run a 3071 and got steves' base map 'service' to find out that i was running 13.7 afr wot from a 'dyno tuned custom map' for my setup. these maps are so far off that i had to add a tonne of fuel and even more timing to get this thing to run right. to top it off steve refused to answer any of my emalis with datalogs to rewrite the map and didnt return or answer my calls.

I appreciate all the info. All of the info is very helpful to me. I would like to do a Ls1 but i already have the SR Blacktop with a good start on it being built. I have most of the things everyone has mention. Really all im lacking is a bigger turbo, bigger injectors,Z32 maf,and a wideband and a good tune to reach the numbers im looking for from what i see so far.See i have not even drove the car yet. Its getting a make over on the outside. Everything else is already in or on the motor. I have a good question. It has a aftermarket manifold on it. I think there is a Garrett GT28 turbo on it.Can I upgrade just the turbo to a bigger one and will it bolt directly on or will i have to change some things also with the turbo. Its a bottom mount set up.

as long as it is a t2 turbo and have the 5 bolt exhaust side like the current, it will bolt up.

Yes I do have a wideband (fjo) and steve has been more then helpful right now even answering my questions rather quickly considering we are on opposite coasts. But this thread isnt about that...

To the OP....get a wide band also to keep track of you afr's....

That's crazy.. It took steve at least 24hr's to reply to my emails even with the gold service.. the map he sent me has 0 chance of working with my setup.. The only time he replied quickly was when I asked for my money back and he refused.. steve shadows sucks.. don't use him..

Anyways to the OP, get a big turbo and some 1000cc injectors.. you'll make 400whp no problem with room for more if wanted.. and don't get steve shadows to tune your car lol..
