What differentials do people use when they put an LSx in their 240? Stock with a modified driveshaft?

the motorset was 8,000 , then you got bout 2,000 in mounts, headers, cam and valve springs. so that's 10 right there. then there's exhaust, wiring, fuel system, alternator conversion to 1 wire, power steering lines to fab up as well as p/s pump modification to reduce pressure, ac lines fabbed, aluminum radiator, oem gaskets, new crank bolt, LSD, driveshaft, actual labor time and other misc. parts. we're also gonna tune it for him so dyno time is included in as well.
you don't necessarily have to spend 8,000 dollars on a 2006 LS2 motorset with 8,000 miles on it. you can get an ls1 for a lot less and use the extra 3 or 4 grand to mod it with, but i kinda like that it's more displacement, you can boost 8psi on stock ls2 which would make the car 600hp+ np etc etc. but basically no matter what route you go. do it right. if you can't afford to do it right, then don't do it until you can. and then when it's all said and done, you will have a bad ass car, that makes good power and gets good gas mileage =] Dave @ Lethal Injection

i was debating doing the LS1, but I have a 280Z just sitting, so while it waits, I might rip the l28 out and put it in my 240sx....

@ future240: come hang out and check out the shop when you get a chance.
@ redevilrps13: hell yeah man, you can make 350hp on an L28 pretty easily but yeah, after doing this swap, i'm so gungho about these things =] ...... no worries though, i haven't given up on imports :P my little KA-T Datsun 510's undergoing surgery at the moment. i got an s13 rear subframe in it /w z32 diff. the subframe is shortened as far as wheel base as well as a mini-tub so i should be able to get some 295's or bigger in the back and use all the s13 adjustable rear suspension pieces/brake upgrades/coil overs. i'm still gonna have back seats too. got a z32 tranny going on the ka trans so it'll hold the power. the head is getting an UBER port and so are the ITB'S i got for it. i got the aeromotive eliminator fuel pump which supports 1600hp efi and 2400carb, it's bigger than the a1000 lol. my fuel lines are gonna look like heater hoses hahaha. once he's done fabbing up those, he's finishing it off with a 9 second legal cage, then i'll start on building the KA + gt35r + spray. i figure mckinney ran 9.80's with 500hp and an automatic in their 510, why can't i run 9's with a 5 speed and a 600rwhp grocery gettin sedan ^_^ can't wait till that things done. i took some pics of the progress today but they're not that good. i'll post em up once i upload em to the computer tomorrow. thx again for the reps and compliments Dave @ Lethal

There's an LS1 motorset locally out of a 2000 'vette that can be snatched for a thousand bucks with harness and ECU....
Hmm....

The most I have seen broken on the rear end of an S-chassis is the axle. Very rarely do I see a pinion problem on high torque cars, but that's very very high torque race cars on slicks and at that point you break almost any diff. Props to Nissan for designing a pretty strong diff. As far as the propeller shaft goes, get your driveline alignment down and then call the Driveshaft Shop. They'll tell you how to measure and determine what ends are needed on the shaft. |

Woah you're planning on putting an LS series engine in a GT-R and maintaining the AWD? I love you! If you do it please post the info on how you accomplished this as far as bellhousing adaptation, clutch/pessure plate, front half shaft clearance under/through/around the oilpan, starter location, and anything else needed to make it fit. I've been wanting to do that for years as LS engine + AWD = ultimate street machine, but it's never been done as far as I can tell and I can't find the pertinent drivetrain specs needed to know if it would fit together and what needs to be clearanced. Perhaps the biggest issue I see is the fact that GT-Rs have a pass-through in the oilpan for the front left half shaft. I assume it would require a custom oilpan or dry sump to make this work. The starter might be a pain too.
I'm dead serious in saying that if you get that to work, I would be willing to buy your custom parts to mate a Gen III/IV small block to ATTESA AWD. That would make for the ultimate S13 in my mind. |

had a talk with garry grimes and drew and the 2000awhp gtr's not gonna happen. the world motor's a 60-80,000dollar motor, then there's getting the drivetrain and chassis to hold that much power without crumpling the car, shearing wheel's/axles/lugs off, and killing the driver......and drew's not ballin that hard to be frank lol. i will keep you updated on what we WILL be doing with it once i know tho.
i apologize for the cok tease Dave

hahaha
you gotta get a punch and punch out the piece that the shifter ball sits in that's in the transmission from the ls1 t56 and put that on the ls2 tranny, then you can use the ls1 shifter and it'll work finishing up the fuel lines then we should be able to get it on the dyno and see what she puts down. i'll keep you posted Dave =]
