Yo-yo thread and other skilled toys
I was always into yoyo's like most other kids, but never had the patience ot try and learn any of the complicated tricks. So a few years down the road, my friend who's heavy into yoyoing is what helped get my back into it, along with being on forums like yoyonation.com and what not.
Figured this thread would be for anyone else into skilled toys, such as yoyo's, tops and what not. Personally, my current lineup that I use often would be: YoyoFactory Fast 201 YoyoFactory Plastic Grind Machine 2 YoyoFactory Severe YoyoFactory Severe 2010 YoyoFactory Genesis Stacked Miguel Correa Editon.

Yeah, the play style has changed immensely. Even the technology has changed that has been going into them.
I'm still working on getting up to this level, but here is an old video of my friend. He is currently playing for YoyoFactory.

i work for after school programs in my city, last year, there was a presenter at the school "Ned-yo", all the kids went out and bought crappy yo-yo's for like 15 bucks.....i was like "nah nah nah, F**K that. went home, dug up my yomega, came to school the next day and did work...
kids were like "AHHHH WHAAAA!!!! that thing must cost a jabillion dollars!"

That chick is hot!!!! I remember my yomega, I couldn't afford them when they first came out, so I was jus rocking a duncan. You know what I used to hate? When you snap the yoyo, and it would fly off the string, and just take off!!! Brings back memories!! I'd never get back into it though, not unless more hot chicks, like Ann are involved.

Dang dude!! I didn't realize how serious yo-yo'ing was... Those two are pretty ridiculous. I always had light up yo-yo's groing up, (from the dollar store ofcourse), haha.
Now that I think about it, I believe I did have an x brain before, and a few Duncans. The x brain was sick!! You mentioned tops!! Man that brings back memories. I used to buy those things off the ice-cream truck for like 2 bucks like crazy... I bought SOOO MANY of them, lol. I kinda want to get a yo-yo now, but I'm afraid to look up the price on a good one... Probably more than I want to spend!! |

at my elementary school they banned yo-yo's for some reason. so at lunch and break time we would go behind the portables or the furthest part of the play ground, and just throw down where no one could see us. lol |

yo-yos are legit, i took a look again and found a couple duncans i had lost (butterfly, and midnight special)..then i started to remember the good ol' days....my first yo-yo was a yomega "all star" got stolen from my back back in like 5th grade...then a duncan neo, finally upgraded to the yomega fireball then my current x brain...
but lately ave been looking into one of these kinda wanna give free hand a try, but maybe i'll start with something cheaper

The counterweight style is called 5a. You can do it with any yoyo for the most part. You just need to get a counterweight. Most drill a hole in a dice or whatever suits them. Though Duncan sells like a pack of three counterweights for fairly cheap.
I suggest using a plastic yoyo for starters, since it won't hurt your wallet, nor the yoyo as much if it hits the ground. The YoyoFactory Plastic Grind Machine 2 (PGM) plays well, and has hub stacks; so you can grab the yoyo from the side and it will keep spinning. It retails for about $30 The YoyoFactory Protostar plays very well, also. It retails for like $35 I think. The play style feels a lot like a metal yoyo. Also, congrats to Jensen Kemmitt of YYF for becoming 1a world champion.
