steering wheel shakes at 45mph, example.... 0-30mph the steering wheel is straight, no shaking nothing. Car hits around 45mph and the steering wheel will begining shaking, but in a sequence. (shake, fades away, shakes, fades away...etc) after 45mph the shaking goes away.... u guys kno wat it could be? my friend and I are trying to fix it on his car, its a S13 Hatch, anything major? my fellow knowledged zilvia members, i seek your help!

bent rim? or messed up suspension piece maybe? like a arm.....
i have a shaking problem but only when i brake but thats cause i have a warped rotor (new ones should be here ne day :0) )
u hit anything? or hit any hard pot holes? that u remember?

have you taken it to an allignment shop to get checked out yet? could be ANYthing. but please, do yourself a favor and take it to a shop and have the proffesionals look at it. that way you know EXACTLY whats up.

My 97 just started doing the same crap last summer/fall. When I crawled underneath the car to see what was up my tension rod bushing were splooging all over the place. Before the shaking my tension rod bushings were in great shape. The two have to be correlated.

tc rods, bad tires, tires out of balance.
If its the tc rods, it'll feel squirlly at high speed turns too (like on the highway)

no its prob not a bushing or anything major..it could most likely be an unbalaced tire....take your car to a tireshop and have them balance the front tires..and let us know if the problem goes away...i bet 10 bucks thats it..

but if the tire wasnt balanced wouldnt the wheel shake all the time? and not at a certain speed?

it would shake all the time and usually at a higher speed. 50-70mph usually

ived had unbalaced tires..and they dont start shaking till 45mph above...its only 5 buck a pop for god sakes do it!

i work at a tire shop... have your balance checked...unbalanced tires can shake at any speed... from 5mph-45mph...alignment will have nothing to do with shaking...if its not the balance then it could be numerous things... while they have your car on the lift, whiggle your tires and see if there is anyplay.... check to see if there is grease around the hub of your rotor(bad bearing)....

Why are you only doing 45? Just drive faster than that all the time and this will not be a problem.

haha... agreed... but as for the alignment dont wast your money on it.. it wont be your problem... bad alignment only causes pull and uneven tire wear.

I still say its the tension rod bushings. My car has the same symptoms at 45 but not above or below. Even after I rotated my tires (backs to front) the car kept on with the slight steering wheel shake at 45. Look underneath at the tension rod bushings to see if they are leaking and go from there.

to sum it up , suspension bushings , bad tires , bent rims or bad alignment. maybe you just need to hold the steering wheel tighter
