Rendered Speculation: Nissan Silvia on comeback trail?
Filed under: Spy Photos, Coupes, Sports/GTs, Nissan
Last December we reported that Nissan was seriously considering a rear-wheel-drive replacement for the much missed 240SX, a.k.a. the Silvia in Japan. Rumors have continued to surface since then of Nissan's plans, with Winding Road even posting spy shots of a mule this past summer that may have been such a car undergoing testing. Another blog by the name of Rocket Punch Auto Blog claims to know that a new Silvia has gotten the green light and will arrive by 2010 with a price point between ¥2,000,000 and 2,500,000 ($18,435 and 23,044 USD). These renderings (click here to view rear shot) show what a new 240SX and Silvia might look like when it debuts on a modified version of the 350Z's platform. Regardless of how the car looks, the prospect of a new reasonably-priced rear-wheel-drive offering from any automaker is exciting news to us. We await the day in the near future when Nissan's 240SX/Silvia descendant shares a stoplight with a new incarnation of Toyota's famous AE86, which is also rumored to be in development. Throw in a Pontiac Solstice Coupe for good measure and we have ourselves a new bang-for-the-buck performance segment. If they were smart they would make it off of a modified 350z chassis to save cost, then cut about 500+ lbs of crap out, then a turbocharged qr motor. Put the car right at 210hp, rwd, 5spd, viscous lsd, and at least a brembo option. I see it highly doable for $19k-low $20k's msrp. We can dream can't we?

Oh, you have much to learn. Renault KNOWS how to build engines, I mean maybe their their 2005 and 2006 F1 championships don't mean much...or maybe this video don't mean much... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eo-9Io41bt8 Heh, you decide... As long as the Nissan passion, heritage, DNA isn't lost I'm fine. Which I doubt it would be, Nissan wouldn't let it on a car that has such a following, and its definitely going to be a collaboration....

Not to mention where the money came from to bail Nissan's asses out the last time they tried listening to people who weren't buying new cars.

I was hoping for an SR20VET at first, but this word of Renault sounds pretty good. Hopefully they tame down that nose a little, it's kinda awkward.

sr20 motors are no longer in use by nissan/renault - only used in some korean car or chinese or somethin... I'm looking forward to seeing the turbocharged mr20 - or a vq25 with boost.

ALL the renderings released so far are renderings done by magazines and NOT by Nissan. So if you don't like'em don't worry.

Thank goodness. I don't think I would even ride in one of those... although, that pic of the yellow one has a huge resemblance to the one that was all covered up in the test pics...

PS or not, that looks the best out of everything else. The picture at the very top is about as bland and generic as it gets. The S15 just needs a slight update and bring that bad boy over here. All these cars look like Altima bastard children.

We recieved inside info from Nissan that its a 2.2L turbo engine that is said to be utilized in the S16 Silvia. Should be 2010/2011 model.
