There are pro am events and if you are good enough, you qualify. Quite simple. But chances are your friend should worry about learning, practicing more than to try and get a FD license. There are many people you'd have to better to get that far. Best bet is to find out when the next one is going to be held with Drift Battle at Altamont.

FD = Formula Drift.

The Drift Battle license is included in the registration fee's. Or you can buy one from AMP(Altamont)

Aside from that, all you need to do is pass tech, and have a class C licence or above.

Well, it's for your own safety and it keeps altamont open. Not much could be said. And anyways, chances are if your car fails tech it isn't suited for the track anyways. Which means your car couldn't be up to handling superbly. Even if it's something as simple as an oil leak, that seeps into the track which destroys the surface, makes it slick, and can be a potential hazard to someone else.

Don't see what the gripe is...

Body damage would have to be severe/unsafe. Like having a metal shard pointing at your body for them to fail you. hah.

Ride height? Only thing I could thing of is they don't want your frame it's self slapping the ground. That goes for any form of road motor sports.

As for DriftxBattles tech being super harsh..Im sorry but you must have been missinformed,
My car is preety banged up and prety low and it passed easily.
I mean they do check for a bunch of things, but they dont make it so that nobody can pass..
Aslong as everything is on your car nice and tight and ready to go
You should be fine
Thanks
Darius

Tony,

That's what you heard... you should come out and find out. Have you ever driven in a real sanctioned event before? If you want to get a FD license, you need to be ready to adhere to some tech rules. They're more picky than we are by far. Like others have said here everything in place is for your safety first whether you like it or not.

If you have any questions or concerns email us [email protected]

Jay

i have done many track events but with my type - r...
thsi will be the first event with this car and it has a new motor and all new setup so it should be cool. Im not against the tech inspection i support them 100% but people make them sound so bad the ones i went thourgh in willow were prity easy nothing super bad. I just don;t want to get out there after all the work done to the car and not be able to compete... Its a big deal becuase i have to trailer my car and bring every thing. Im sure yo knwo its not just a casual "o lets go to the track to day" lol
but ya i will see if i can make it out to the next event...
If i am not going to enter my car can i go out jsut to see if i can pass tech??? That way i won't have to bring everything jsut get the quick inspection and see were i stand???

The ones you went through at willow weren't typical then because tech inspections are serious. Safety is our number one concern as well as other orgs.

Do you think you're the only one that trailer's your car to events and would possibly get turned away? I've turned away trailered vehicles personally and didn't even consider their mode of travel to the event. Our staff and FD will do the same for you and anyone entering an event. For me taking the day off, getting my trailer out of storage, loading the car on the trailer and driving to the event is normal and should be for you too since you've done many track events... if not just get used to it... it's par for the course.

I'm not sure if you've read, but most orgs have a pretech inspection house(s) where you can find out where you stand before the event. We will not tech your car or inspect it unless you are regsitered for the event. We are on a schedule and do not have time for this. You can go to a pretech shop for this and our tech sheet is readily available on our site for download.

Hope this answers all of your questions... remember saftey first.
