GTA Limited RWD/ST1 Build Story
I know I made a build thread before but it sucked in my opinion. I was lazy and did not want to put many details in it. I'll be using this to keep track of my own progress. I'm going to start from the beginning when i first bought the car back in 2010.
I found the car on craigslist. The guy had moved from south carolina and had no room for it at his new house in detroit. So i instantly went up there to take a look at it, in the dark sadly. From what i could tell it was rust free and thats all i cared about but when i got home i was a little upset at myself. The car had been in a collision, not a major one but a collision non the less. Then i thought to myself hey you have a rust free s14 that you bought for 3400, stop bitching. here is how it looked when i first brought it home. DSC_0399 by Stiglitz Photo, on Flickr DSC_0422 by Stiglitz Photo, on Flickr Early 2011 As i started to sort through the car in the freezing winter days in here in Chicago I realized way to many bad things. I was lied to! (go figure) The shock and spring combo was not what he originally said they were. instead of lowering springs they were cut lowering springs. I found that out the hard way. rolling down the expressway and my tire exploded, well the spring unloaded enough that where it is suppose to seat on punctured my tire. (sorry i dont know what the seat is called). I how ever was impressed that it had a full header back exhaust. Another bad thing was once it started warming up the car would over heat pretty quickly. Found out that the fans were ghetto rigged wired up. Once that was fixed the problem still happen but lets say instead of taking 30 minutes to overheat, it took 50-60 minutes. So me being me took this as a sign to buy an SR. Before i did all that i want to upgrade most of my suspension so i went on a shopping spree. heres a photo what the puncture Stance SS-DD Trim, z32 brake swap, and some other goodies I wanted Corbeau Driver seat Rpf1s wrapped in 255 nt01s [IMGhttps://fbcdn-sphotos-f-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/207950_10150154938136246_2418974_n.jpg[/IMG] Fender braces and blast pipes Nismo brace and SPL goodies More goodies S13 shell with the new motor in it I finally got the motor in, boy 230whp seems so ungodly fast when your coming from the stock KA hp not only was I amazed I was enjoying it way to much So I started autorossing with my local miata club in unlimited class. Even though there courses were pretty tight it taught me a lot. The main thing is to be precised with every steering movement. Plus the open Diff was killing my times. I still managed to finidh first in there series. Well that’s it for 2011 for the most part, a couple of hiccups didn’t allow me to get much road course time. Oh boy would that change in 2012. Here are some more photos from 2011 one time pearl (5)-2 by Stiglitz Photo, on Flickr one time pearl (2)-2 by Stiglitz Photo, on Flickr e249af0d-68c7-56f8-8a74-4a696609e897 by Stiglitz Photo, on Flickr 260260_2034030484079_1043688585_2414539_7349186_n by Stiglitz Photo, on Flickr 2012!!! Then it started. This is where it all went down hill lol I thought ot myself hey what would make this car even better? Doubling the horse power would. Oh if you cant tell the last few photos I changed my tire size from 255 to 275s and went with RA1s. Back on topic I now wanted 400whp and I kind of had a plan how to get there. I figured cams, tune, bigger turbo, and soe supporting mods and I should get there no problem. Since I was going with more power I also need more mods to stop the car and plant it to the ground. (in my head I told myself I needed all this even though I know I didn’t)My pockets didn’t agree with this plan but I made them agree!....... Heat wrapped my exhaust Evo 8 calipers with PFC 2 piece rotors 2871r and isis manifold S15 HLSD Kogniton wing Kouki bumper, shine side skirts, wider front fenders don’t look at my emergency fender roll I had to do at the track one day. All these goodies came in one day well most of them This diffuser was made by a board member, I believe he has a kouki with an LS1 in it Cam,lifter, shims install When it was all said and done DSC_0003 by Stiglitz Photo, on Flickr Oh and I bought a honda So it was done I accomplished my goal but it was mid summer I missed so many events. Bummed is an understatement but I made up for it with the s2000. It was so simple and fun to to drive. So I put the 240 in the corner and tracked the S2000 all year. Hpde’s, autocross you name it I was trying to do it and get as much seat time as possible. One day late august I finally settled down and tried to get the car running. I actually did for a full 5 seconds then got out and saw oil all over the ground. So…..all I could think was this fucking sucks. So I put the car back in the corner and track the s2000 some more. Well then I had another stupid crazy vision. Before I even drove this set up I made up my mind that I wanted 600+ HP to keep up with the GTA guys (Dave Norton to be specific). Since I thought this motor had something more wrong with it then what really was I took it all apart to start over, again. Come to find out that a oil line was seized shut (have no idea how that happened) and my CAS is was actually cracked in half is a miracle I didn’t blow my motor up. That was winter of 2012 and now we are here to present day. Ill share what photos I have now of the car and what the plans are next, well F it lets do it now! RHC media&Stiglitz Photo (1)-2 by Stiglitz Photo, on Flickr RHC media&Stiglitz Photo (2)-2 by Stiglitz Photo, on Flickr RHC media&Stiglitz Photo (6)-2 by Stiglitz Photo, on Flickr rhc media&Stiglitz Photo Pt (3)-2 by Stiglitz Photo, on Flickr So my Honda turned into a track car to, I don’t know whats wrong with me . The plans are the following: • VE head • N1 camshafts • Supertech valvtrain • Precision 6266 (or equivalent) • 350z trans • Undertray • Splitter • Fuel cell • Haltech ECU • Racepak • Full cage A bunch of other stuff of course but that’s just the main things that are to come. I’m still tracking my s2000 in TTC, wangfest time attack and GTA street tire class. Sadly I miss rd.ATL that just passed . I blew up my s2000 motor actually and just got it back together a few days ago. Still hopeful to make button Willow in November. |

Mean looking Zenki! Love the overall setup with it. Also, great choice on parts! Oh and you'll see me out on the track, but probably not till next season :/

I suggest something other than the N1's. They are designed for optimal flow on a NA setup. I'd personally rock Kelfords and plan to on my setup once I max my factory cams out.

Go with Kelford, they make great cams. Another option would be to get the Nissan P12 cams (that's what I'm running)

How are you keeping your window up? I am going to be doing that to my doors on my s13 but want to keep where I can still roll up and down. Nice build. buying all the right brand parts. SPL is next city over from me.

Yeah, good luck with that. They are few and far between and $$$ when/if they pop up.

we had a local time attack/ time trials event at Gingerman raceway. I took 4th but i had so many mistakes that i didnt recover from, including line, locking up, and picking up my inside tire. well here is a video of my (fastest) lap.

Alright here is a little update. plans have changed!! VQ instead of an SR. My engine builder and i feel like it would be better to have 800hp on 6 cylinder then 800 on 4. less stress and less rebuilds. Well in theory that is.

well i started to take all my SR related stuff out of the car. Wiring harness, mounts (which was a pain in the ass thanks to the previous owner rounding the bolts and y neglect to change them when i first did my SR swap) Boost controller and a few other things that my brain doesnt want to remember. I Also decided to make it look like a car again even if it doesnt have an engine.
So i sanded, cleaned, and re painted my hood and bumper. here are photos. DSC_8781 by Stiglitz Photo, on Flickr DSC_8764 by Stiglitz Photo, on Flickr DSC_8753 by Stiglitz Photo, on Flickr |
