Oil pressure problems (cont)

So i just took my oil pan off and drained my oil, etc. The capacity of oil with filter in the engine is 3 1/4 quarts according to the fsm (also says 3.7 liters, which equals 3.9 quarts). I had 5 1/4 quarts in the engine. How could that much oil affect the engine and how it runs? also, what is the REAL capacity of the SR (s14) engine oil?

Thanks, Ryan

Too much oil can lead to the crank and rods whipping it up and adding air -- not good

Just fill until the dip stick says "F"

does anyone else have anything to add to this? i filled up my SR with 5 quarts of Royal Purple 15W40, and it's just a little over the FULL mark. I figured since i only drive the car on the track it wouldnt hurt to have some extra oil in there... ?

question is about oil pressure... if the engine is always spinning at close to redline, will the extra oil hurt or help?

most oil pump/sump assemblies need a vent, if oil level is too high, like Kid said ull end up frothing oil one way or another. oil temps rise... and windage on bottom end makes car feel crappy.
ive personnally seen this on my brother in laws car>> in the end u can have oil pump outta ur dipstick hole (his came outta there, but im sure it can come outta diff places.) and catch fire, lol, hes so traumafied now, he goes to jiffy lube , lol

this is prolly for tech but... oil control is the name of the game, exceeding oil capacity and vents wont be vents and oild control will be sucking,

Glad I wasn't alone in the oil capacity... I have a redtop, and I'm at the upper limit if I put in 3.5quarts.

What is the capacity difference between S13 and S14 SRs?

dunno bout differences, but if u wanna add oil capacity without a pan, u can try big stainless braid lines remote oil filter and low restriction oil cooler, my oil capacity is 5.75 quarts now(very little oil pressure drop was found with use of hp1 filter on relocator
On a side note Torco mpz isnt getting any cheaper, im gotta sell a kidney to pay for lube soon.
