New tomei sr20 turbo outlet....missing welds?
Hey, question..
I bought the new tomei turbo outlet/elbow from enjuku back on feb 12th. It finally came in yesterday and I was super excited to check it out. It looks sick, very good quality. But, I started cross referencing a photo of the elbow from frsport and it seems that mine is missing welds on the flange that mates to the turbo, in the 3 grooves that allow the studs to fit. I'm using tapatalk at work so I will try attaching all the photos.. Should I be concerned about this? The grooves are bigger than a fingernail. You think this one was rushed/ not qc'ed?ImageUploadedByTapatalk1399468319.527372.jpg Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

That's a nice elbow outlet! I have the early version tomei outlet, it's a bit different from yours.
As to the welds, I would suggest you check up with enjuku. Quick question did the elbow come in a tomei box? |

Yes it came in a tomei box with all the accessories -- 4 stickers, 3 studs, some nuts, o2 sensor adapter, rubber cap for the o2 sensor bung, a hose clamp, tube of something, instructions. May be forgetting something, but I am pretty sure it's legit.
Thanks for the responses. I posted this on enjukus Facebook last night, if I don't hear from them on there I'll give them a call. It's just weird that the picture from frsport shows welds in that one groove. There weren't pictures of the inside grooves though Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Enjuku Racing
James, there should be no issue with the turbo outlet from tomei. Look inside the tunnel and see if you notice any cracks or gaps. Tomei has changed the procedure on how they weld the outlets and i can reassure you that you wont have any issues. If there is any issues feel free to give us a call 1.888.SR.20DET. mon-fri and we will be more than happy to help you out. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Hmm...still weird how they didnt weld it all the way around. Does the elbow sit inside the flange or on top? Can you get a picture of the inside? Curious if it slips inside the flange now so they dont really have to weld it all way around.

I wouldn't doubt that it's welded on the inside of the flange. Any pictures of the inside of that area?

Seems kinda odd that there is no welds in where the bolt holes are. Seems like that would possibly cause the weld to crack right at those locations if any did crack in the first place it would probably start there.
I don't really question tomei at all because i love their products and quality of them. But its kind of funny because if this were any other company that did the same type of design ( not welding sections like that ) people would probably say have it welded. Or they would say its a crap manifold.

it would have to be welded on the inside.....or else it would leak lol. It's most likely welded on the inside and been smoothed over. Basic flange welding practice....weld both sides.

You all are correct, it's welded on the inside and smoothed over. I'll snap a picture after work today. It really is a nice piece and I didn't even notice that area at first.
I trust tomei and you all saw enjukus response to my inquiry, if there are any issues they will help me out. It should be alright. I will note however, one of the stud holes is not perfect and I'm going to have to drill it out, ever so slightly, for it to mate up to the turbo. I am a little disappointed about that. I'll take a picture of that as well Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
