Tank's s13 KA24DE Rebuild.

Traded my carbon locked rx7 for a 1993 s13 fastback. Was supposed to have a blown headgasket, but I later found out I was in for a bit more than I had first anticipated.

annnnd its raining.

oh no its not. Freaking alabama weather, raining, then 15minutes later hot, humid, and sun shiny. Then the next day it starts snowing....

Ready to come out.

Yoink!

Tearing it down on the engine stand.

My table of many things.

Got the head and had a nasty surprize. Piston 4 is blown as pictured. Probably a .020 overbore and a new set of pistons in store. Hopefully I don't need to go to .040 because Nippon Piston apparently doesn't make anything larger than a .020. I just wanted to go with a stock rebuild so I can run 87 octane.

Here is what I am working on while the engine is at the machine shop.

Morimoto Mini H1 projector retro fit into 7x6 housings. I am planning on keeping full flip up functionality. I am also installing morimoto led halos, and some ebay demon eyes made for the mini h1 projector. I have done a color mod, and painted the cut-off shields to give the projector lense a blue hue even when powered off.
Had to fix the linkage on one of my flipup buckets.

No flash pic.

Flash pic.

Without 7x6 lense on.

These will have up/down leveling but not rotational. I mocked up an aiming jig, so they are fairly level.

Projector 1 is finished. Sealed it up and mounted on my bucket.

Demon eye action going on.

Halo+Demone eye and me not knowing much about cameras. Wish there was less glare. Yes the halo is in fact more intense than the sealed beam on low. But it doesnt focus out or give a good light pattern.

Stay tuned for when I get proper fitting bulbs (been using 9007 bulbs ziptied in to aim them) Will through up a light pattern shot.

Edit:
Got a call from the machine shop, crank/block/head/and pistons rings are ready. So I am on my to get them, talon spits starts over heating. I popped the hood and my alternator/waterpump belt is on the subframe. Damn alternator pivot bolt broke in half on a heavy 3rd gear pull. DSMs are so awesome at lulling you into a false sense of security when you have dropped way to much money on them to make them fast and reliable they just find crazier and crazier things to break. So my engine pieces will be sitting at the machinist's until at least Monday. Instructors and one of our students are going to Skills USA competion this week so we are out class and labs wens and thurs. Hopefully I can put the engine together that day and get it back in the car.

Finally got my engine back from the machine shop and got some work done on assembling it.

Head that was "cleaned"

Block that was actually fairly damn clean. Bored .020 overbore. Honed.

My old Lady decided to help me ring and hang the pistons. She got rather frustrated with the snap rings and decided to become the photographer.

Quick Test fit.

Installing pistons with ring compressor.

Driving pistons into bore.

Done with pistons, moved onto Oil Filter Housing and Oil filter.

Fresh Rear main seal.

Turned (.010) and cleaned crankshaft.

All the mains and rods checked out in spec (plastigauge method).

Thanks. Lost my camera, gonna have to continue for now with cellphone pics.

But as of now, I am simply waiting on tid bits. I need a powersteering high pressure line, header, and exhaust system to finish up the build. I might need some front sway bar bushings. I received the car in parts and I can't seem to find the driver's side sway bar bushing.

Good news is that the driveshaft, diff, and most of the underhood stuff is done.

After I get it together I will have to wait a bit on tires. Going back to school is taking a chunk out of my finances. Making too much money to get pell grant this time around.
