Question All treble+No bass=craptacular sound

Last year I bought a mp3 player head unit and all new speakers. So after installing everything I turned it on and realized there is ZERO bass. None. Nada.

My Subura has like a little Playstation sized subwoofer that is under the passengers seat. I'd like something small and compact like that. I hate I.C.E so I dont' want to have to run a crapload of wires, an amp or anything I don't absolutely need.

What would be a cheap solution to get bass out of my stereo?

If I have to listen to Atreyu one more time with no bass I'm gonna stab myself.

Kenwood, Infinity, and someone else make small little subwoofers that are little but can add bass to your car. You will have to run a few wires though.

If you go components you would need an amp for them to sound good/get the most out of them. (components are the ones with seperate tweeters from the midrange, or also to describe a subwoofer)

You probably wired up your speakers in reverse. On whichever speaker is easier to access, reverse the Positive and NEgitive terminal..and if it sounds worse..then yeah your speakers are the shitty.

i know this isnt a playstation size subwoofer but you can buy the infinity basslink. it cost 200+ but it pre-amped and all you need to do is connect speaker wires to it. its the size of the box that playstations come in.

I replaced the factory speakers with Pioneer TS-G4640R
http://www.crutchfield.com/S-PSNVu5C...0&I=130TSG4640
front and rear and have a Clarion Head Unit.

The speakers were cheap so I'm now starting to think thats the problem. I wasn't overly concerned about bass response and sound quality, I just wanted something to replace my blown factory speakers.

I dont' have the factory Active Speaker system amp crap so I know the factory amps aren't causing the problem.

So did you try to swap the terminals? If you cross them.. it'll cancel out the bass.

When the wind chill is above 20 degrees thats the first thing I'm going to try doing.

Would all the speakers be cracked out if just ONE has the terminals reversed? Or would I notice a difference by just swapping the terminals on the fronts?
I'm too damn lazy to take the rears back out.

It sounds like NONE of the speakers have any bass to them. I'd be surprised at my stupidity if I reversed ALL of them.

it should only effect one. (the one you reversed), you might have reversed all of them.
set your radio to front fade then balance to driver or passenger speaker then test it out on that side. if you hear bass then it's wired correctly, if not then it's probably reversed.

of course if everything is wired correctly and you're still having problems then yea.....as Smog Tech says.

If one set of wires are reversed it will only effect the two front/two rear speakers. So if you have no bass in the front, and you switch the polarity on one speaker on the fornt.. both should sound better. If not..then yeah speakers are sucky

I had those same speakers in the rear of my hatch up until this weekend. I don't know what you were expecting in terms of bass buying those. They're 4x6's for christ's sake! I swapped them out for the pioneer TS-A696OR's, nice 3 way 6x9's for the rear of my hatch and infinity reference components for the front. All powered off my headunit. It is a very balanced good sounding system with plenty of bass. You don't need a sub for bass, you just need some larger speakers!

Sounds like something I might do.

I'm assuming 6x9's would need a custom enclosure in the rear? Or can you fabricate something so they'll fit in the stock speaker location?

If you switched the pos. and neg. on ALL of the speakers, front and back, you should still have bass.

Doing that is pointless.. that just takes you back to square one.

If you switch all the speakers polarity on all the s peakers they will sound the SAME!!!

Reason being, I said one speaker, one side. That's it. What happens when you wire one speaker in reverse, both speakers will phase out..meaning the bass will cancel out. So if you just switched one side, it can wound better or worse, depending on the quality of your speaker.

If it sounds worse, you wired it right the first time, so switch it back. If it sounds better, you messed up the first time..and now it's correct. If it sounds just a little bit better.. you need new speakers.

Jaetea: I did a ton of cutting to the existing mount plate, large plastic cover and small speaker cover. You can see a bit of the speaker sticking out, but if u put in the privacy cover, it covers right over this piece and the setup looks totally stock. And the difference is unbelieveable! The 6x9's sound soooooo much better than the shitty 4x6's. Plus the pioneers were reasonabally cheap (90 bucks), and I really like the sound of them.

Smog Tech: I was refering to this statement. I was trying to point out that if he HAD wired ALL of them reverse then there would still be bass in the car. Not that he should switch all of them.
