is my turbo going bad? or my motor?
long story short piston ring went on me one night i was coming from work!
i got it rebuilt(will list mods on bottom) from a pretty reputably guy. dont want to start bashing him or his shop so keep at that for now! got my car back from the shop installed it and now its blowing black bluish smoke! my turbo was good when the rings went out! now my question is, is my motor still good? or my turbo from sitting a bizzlion years? did oil(20w50) get into my rings already after just firing it up for about ten min? havent taken turbo off to see if theres any oil on turbo yet! did a compression test but was low! what i remember if a motor is freshly rebuilt or built it should have all low compression unitl all the ring seats! also it only blows smoke at idle, whenever i keep it at a steady rev at about 3g smokes goes away! havent driven it out of driveway yet! as for mods here it goes head: 3angle valve job(portmatch) bc valves srings and retainers tomei 256 by 256 camshafts freddy mani arp head studs ngk iridium plugs heat range 8(didnt re-gap, it was already pre-gapped) greddy rocker arm stopper cosworth head gasket 1.2mm oem intake and exhaust valve stem hks gt-rs turbo block: eagle h-beam rods cp 86.5mm pistons oem main seals acl rod main bearing edged and knifed crank fully balanced oem water/oil pump oem timing chain hot tanked oem gasket set any suggestions would help!!! thanks |

black = fuel, your obvisouly running rich aka 90% of all sr b/c they are not tuned
blue = oil, prolly from your turbo. It might just be blow by b/c aren't fully set.. since it's only at idle i'm guessing you rings are still seating. since it goes away at high rpms.... but i could be way wrong...

do a compression check...what numbers are you seeing? As far as the turbo, how do you know its good? Did you check for shaftplay? Could be the seal fucking up...

Drive the car and let the rings seat and get back to us... has the car drivin under its own power since the rebuild, or is it just sat and idled?

quote] this is most likely the problem.... i had the same thing on a coupleof my rebuilds...but it went away after the driving the cars for a while. if u take of ur turbo elbow and there is no oil gunked up around the wheel on the exhuast side then its a 99% chance its just a liltte blow by. |
