Cage pic thread.

Lets see them, if you got a cage post the pics. If you built the cage lets see some build pics too! I love seeing good welding&metal fab skills. If i had a cage i would post it.

A cage constructed by Tim = /thread.

Posting a pic of a cusco cage is a slap in his face just to be a post after his work...

I knw ANYTHING Tim WISSAS does is very well thought out and calculated. With that being said, why is the main hoop so far from the car where the two upper bends are.? (where the roof meets the rear quarter windows......very upper left most part of cage in picture)

Ideally, wouldn't those two points hug the car like the rest of the cage? Dont get me wrong, not bashing at all. Just wondering what the reasoning is behind this so I will be better prepared to build my own cage. I plan on making it as tight to the car as possible unless i hear a reason not to.

Maybe it has something to do with providing cushion of some sort? Fuck if I know.

Paint?

Hey, I just installed my cage and don't want to pull the glass and dont want the cage to rust. What kind of paint do you guys use? I heard you can do a 1 stage paint with brush that won't leave too many brush marks?

if you look closer it is because he used gussets to attach the cage to the b-pillars, and its alot easier to weld in gussets with some room, plus gussets are much stronger than having the cage near the chassis because they make the cage part of the chassis

Yes, but all other parts of the cage are much tighter. Instead of using a 4" gusset, why not just use a 2" gusset and make it look better? I'm sure he has a reason and will chime in soon.

It's hard to keep up with NHRA specs. They're changing the rules about little things every year so it gets expensive to tear out the cage, modify it, then put it back in. I'm sure some of us have spec cages, well the custom cages.

I cut out my cage because I underestimated how close I was to the steering wheel (my height). I'll post some pics of the new cage post paint as soon as I get dressed and go outside and take pics with my phone.

Here's my old cage:

not as clean as some on here but it was trial and error at the beginning. The new cage is 200x better and cleaner than this.

If it is tucked that close then how are you supposed to get in there to weld it all together? Short of cutting the roof off that is. And I am not talking about the gussets I am talking about where the front leg attaches to the main hoop. I think that is the primary reason.

Cutting holes in the floor directly under where the cage is supposed to be mounted TO the floor is an extraordinarily terrible and un-safe idea.
