Lips for Blitz 03's
quick question:
can/ where do i buy larger lips for blitz 03's? i found a set local that i like, but have to leave for work ATM, so i cant do any good though searching, so if anyone has had experience or knows of a place to buy them, id really appreciate it. they are a 3pc and CAN be disassembled into 3 pieces. thanks again, and i will search myself when i get home from work at 2am, if no one has pointed me in the right direction.

Go to a custom wheel shop and tell them what you want to do and have them make the parts to do it.
Or, sell your set and them buy a set in awesome sizes. Either way it's going to be expensive. |

yeah lips aren't that cheap. depending on how much your wheels are they may be as much as the wheels them self.
i contacted work to see how much it would be to get some lips for my 18's and they are 300 a piece. my pair is worth probably around 1100-1200 and cost 1600 new. so it's worth it to me. just food for thought. |

The problem is that they no longer make Blitz 03's.

No the problem is OP doesn't realize that all Blitz 03's of the same disc type use the same lip. They change the offset according the thickness of the back where it mates to the hub.
I.E. 18x10 +44 03's have the same size lip as 18x10+22. |

^Maybe that's why I've never seen 03's with HUGE lips.

False lips? It is still a 3 piece wheel. Only that offset is changed through swapping faces instead of swapping barrels. Cuts down on cost. Cheaper to cast faces with different offsets than to forge barrels with different width.

i think its called false lip: when the spoke appears to stick out further, then attaches to the actuall lip resessed of itself.
and yes, that makes sense.

Yes, lips are the same on all. 17 x 9 +15 and 18 x 10 +45 had samesies. +45 just had a really thin mounting pad.
They are also WELDED...not really a true 3 piece that just splits apart when you unbolt them. |

i actually just bought some: 17x8.5 +28 and 17x9 +32, both low disc. best sizing i have found yet. i will be refinishing them as well. what was the paint code you used to finish the centers? the silver... (i might just have them polished entirely.)

If you're serious:
Calculate the barrel to lip ratio, for example: on a hypothetical wheel that actually uses different barrels to change the offset with the mounting pad exactly in line with the rear of the face: a x10 +50 offset would mean a 6.97" barrel and 3.03" lip (given that the face mounts in the lip and not between the lip and barrel). You can use that to figure out what starting width and offset you would want to use. This can work in your case, although the Blitz 03s use a different mounting pad thickness to adjust offset, different widths will allow you to run a larger lip with your desired offset. I don't know the exact lip to barrel ratio used on this particular wheel, but its quite obvious that a thinner, high offset example would be an ideal starting point to re barrel which is in your favor as these tend to be mush cheaper. Some wheels that are "welded" are actually soldered and can be taken apart by heating up the filler metal on the seams. i hope this makes sense, fuck drinking hella coffee late at night. |

Sometimes a different offset mold is cheaper than machine work time. That's what we do for our wheels at least. Time on the machine is more expensive that just having a different mold for the backpad.
