So my car failed safety inspection because after you put down the E-brake the light stays on in my cluster, sometimes it will go away. Anyone have a solution to fix this so I can get her road legit? Thanks for your help in advance

Have you checked your fluid level?

If it is low, the light will stay on.

I have not. I am new to working on cars but learning. Where can I check my fluid levels and add some if needed? Thanks

Pop the hood.

Brake fluid reservoir, back right corner of the engine bay (provided you drive on the proper side on the road).

Should look similar to this:

The hell with the fluids check the e break switch..just take the center console out and you will see a switch on the e break,,disconnect the switch and it should turn off just make sure you turn the car on and then unplugger her...sorry no pic included lol

Yah my fluids are good, I know exactly what your talking about. Out of curiosity why must the car be on when I unplug it?

You dont have to turn the key over just turn it untill you can see the e brake light on and then unplugger to see it turn off>>>>

Silly me, I was hoping to HELP him fix his problem, not just unplug something so the light goes off.

Sorry for trying to help you actually fix the problem instead of hiding it.

BTW, please replace that switch with a properly functioning one after you con your way through the inspection. I assumed popping your hood would have been easier than removing your center console, thus I sent you in that direction first.

Yes silly you.I hope that who unplugs the switch will realize to replace it and it is up to him to make that decision to do what he wants and yes i would rerplace it if it was me..Dont put words in my mouth i didnt tell him to unplug it and leave it.....Your very sensitive..lol dont take it to hart..

Listen, I am trying to fix this problem I was not looking at unplugging this and leaving the light unfunctional. I was considering maybe the fact that the plug may be worn, beaten or having connection issues. ThatGuy, if it isn't the fluid and all seems well at the plug, where else could I look to fix the problem? where it is set on the rear brakes? Thanks again for your advice, appreciate it.

Kr240sx, if it isn't the fluid, or the switch then your light shouldn't be on. At least I have never seen it stay on provided those two elements are taken care of. Check your rear pads while your looking everything over though. Good luck.

The fluid is the easiest part of the system to check, and more often than not is the cause of the brake light staying on. So, it's so simple to check, and often leads to the solution, why wouldn't you check it?

Did you try checking your brake pads? Your brake pads might be worn out

Thanks, I've been super busy in my office all week and have the day off friday so I will be working on it then. Once I diagnose the problem I'll let you know how I did it to help other forum members in the future. Thanks again for your input!

i was thinking, if he disconnects the wire under the console, if it is some thing to do with the master cylinder, won't the light stay on?? and if it has to do with the parking brake switch won't it shut off?

I don't mean to thread jack, but i'm having the same problem.

I've unplugged the e brake switch and it stays on
I've unplugged the bmc switch and it stays on
I've even jumped the bmc switch plug to complete the circuit and it stays on

It's leaking from the plug, i know thats bad, but does that mean i need a whole new bmc?
