yep, after riding in my friends 1.8T GTI i decided to to see how it compared to the 6 cylinder brother.....quicker.....slightly, 20 more hp. 6 gears = more fun. before u can think your already at 80 mph....

VWs have cool keys...switchblades keys

the only thing that sucked was that it was na....you cant really notice the power becuase its constant. with the turbo you can feel the boost coming on strong. still fun though.

was the 1.8T you drove "chipped"?  =)  If so, you would feel like the VR6 was inferior like a civic compared to a 240.  Or something like that.
All I mean to say is that when you chip a 1.8T, man, are you going fast.

VR6: 174hp
chipped VR6: 180-185hp
1.8T:  150- 180hp (2001 - 2002)
chipped 1.8T (all):  190hp+
chipped 1.8T with turbo-back exhaust: 200+hp easy.

-- or are you talking about the new, 30V 6 cyl?

He's probably talking about the 204hp 24v VR6.  The 30v V6 is an Audi motor used in the Passat, A4, A6.  It's too wide for the Golf/Jetta, hence the creation of the 15 degree VR6.

I would say now is not the time to buy a GTI, unless it's the 337 or the upcoming 20th anniversary model (basically a 337 with different wheels and different paint colors).  My roommate has a 337 and the slightly firmer chassis makes a world of difference in how the car feels.  The MkIV GTIs are usually way too soft for me.

The MkV chassis is due out in a couple years, it should be interesting.  Independent rear suspension for the first time, the 1.8t grows to 2.0L.  Hopefully they don't make it bigger and heavier again.

Woah, the new V&reg;6 is a 24v? I haven't been keeping up with VWs (or my vw) since I got my 240. <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''> &nbsp;I was always under the impression that the VR6 the GTi was getting was the 30v. Anyway.

Has anyone else here noticed that HOT CHICKS tend to drive Volkswagen Jetta VR6s?? &nbsp;<img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sly.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':sly:'>
