I wanted a tomei genesis 2.2 crate engine. BUT after researching it I found somethings out. Tomei engines dont come sleeved, there is NO warranty and there is no port and polishing of the cylinder head. I already knew I would have to send my engine in as a core. So I figured I'd just build it my way. Its turning out good.

Please keep this thread updated, your build list is ALMOST exactly what I had planned for my SR back in the day but I sadly never got it done...

I wanna know what I missed out on back in my 4 cyl. days!

Good luck with it man!

the car is weird, but the motor work i like. you seem to be doing a really nice job with the attention to detail on your motor.

i agree with everyone else about the clutch. i am not saying it wont work or that its crap, i just hope that it does work out for you. appearance wise it looks okay, but i dont judge quality by appearance. you be the guinea pig and........ good luck

I just want to come and touch back in here when I mentioned that spending tons of money isn't impressive.

The motor looks solid, no doubt, the wheels, my favorite, the end. Your car.

The spec clutch is probably great, I had one in my KA it slipped when it was cold. I hate ACT as well, I run an ACT clutch because I hate Exedy more.

Turns out certain companies make good clutches for certain makes, while other makes their clutches suck. Exedy makes great clutches for nissans and lsx motors, I purchased a stage 3 something or other for a honda, shit lasted 20k before a spring retainer blew off of the clutch disc. raping my flywheel on top of things.

Good luck with the rest of your build.

I think the purpose of the vehicle is more along the lines of a
road course / track day type of application.

The spec mini twin clutches are quite capable. Hell just look at their corvette applications, ridiculous power capacity, the the domestic dudes use the hell out of the spec parts.
I have been a vendor for the spec parts for a while, and im not simply stating theyre good because I sell them. The stage # clutches I would not advise for an application
like this one, good choice on the twin pack assembly.
Thumbs up on getting a sponsorship deal with Spec, good people down there.
But in the event something fails on it, hit me up for some OS Giken goodness

Good luck with the completion on the car man, and as always
let me know if I can help with anything.
Robert

Thanks rob , I built this for road courses and It's a great car for that. I know alot of people dont like the flat paint. I painted it this color because when something happens I can just spray paint on it and its fixed. I drive this car all over the place. Its by no means trailered and I wanted to build something different. I LOVE nissans......ALL nissans, BUT im tired of seeing the same old things done. Im not into the hellaflush fad and the stretched tires. just function and purpose. In the end you have to be true to yourself and build something for you and not for everyone else. My car might not be everybodys taste.....BUT its ok. All I have left to do is finish up the cage on this. Ive started working on my other s14 and those will be up soon. Thanks for some of the kind words!

Wayne, you're right about the fact that not every company makes great products for every car. I've run into the same issues being that I own a NISSAN, Mazda and a Toyota. Like women, they're all different.

I think ACT makes fantastic cost-effective performance clutches. I dont know if anything has changed in their production, but I recall both the Miata and SR ACT clutches consisting of ACT pressure plate w/ exedy friction material. This was on the street/strip clutches. Again, not sure if anything changed over the years but I love their clutches and think they are perfect. No chatter, no slipping.. but I've always ran fairly modest HP levels.

Whats weird? The fucking car. Not trying to talk shit, because clearly you're doing a boss job on the motor. But as an outsider you appear to be the technical-smart but not so good with aesthetics. Not that the car is ugly by any means, I think it looks fine compared to the army of zilvia shitpiles we've all witnessed over the years.

I dunno.. I guess I'm just nitpicking over the typical S14-S15 margarita mix w/ fiberglass aero & hood. The wheels I've always hated since seeing them in the 90s option magazines.. 3 spoke makes me want to kill myself, but at least these are the cut spoke ones (not the ugly solid will lin ones) :-)

I wanted to do a vertex ridge kit, but with track use and michigan roads I opted not to. My hood and trunk are carbon fiber. And I sometimes hate my fenders....but there are enought 240s out there that just care what they look like. You might not like the s15/14 mash up. But your allowed to. I didn't want something everyone else has. I do however love my an flug hood. Thank for the input though.

Also, if you wanted to make such large power...

why not a 2JZ, RB, or LSx swap? Seems sort of like a waste to be pinching every last HP out of an SR20.

I would never put a gm engine in a Nissan. And for a rb26 im getting a r32 GTR in august. Im not a big fan of gross horsepower so no JZ's. Besides what would i do with a 1200hp 240sx? I just like the little sr.

Just read through the whole thread. Definantly like it and how your going your own way on this. Not letting everyone talk you into building it like they want.

Cant wait to see some numbers. ^^ Gl mang
