finally, s14 sr/swap/build

Well, This is my first build thread, and my first sr swap. iv learned alot from religiously watching other peoples builds, and digging up old info on this site (which i will note in the process of this build), and now im ready to do my own. here goes.

just for the people that are wondering, this is an s14 sr20det (black WC label on ecu, late 96 model i think) going into a 97 240sx that was an auto converted to 5spd.

and here is where i'll be doing the swap lol,
thats the lift im using for the engine
but there will be some sheets of thick plywood on the dirt lol

while doing research on making sure i can do the wiring on this swap I figured I would take a look at my ecu and connections down there. for some reason my ecu (J7) had duct tape over the screw connectors to the ecu, i removed it and it wasnt holding anything it was just there. and i took some pics, and i want to verify this is the correct plug i will be repining, i didnt see any labels or markings on it other than what looked like D02 on the cover. heres pics.

is this the "dash plug" that needs repining when swapping the s14 sr20?

this is a good look at the connection, and it looks just like the diagrams i have been seeing, some one just verify for me , thanks.

so i just got an email from Omar and he sent me pics of the engine im going to get with compression results, here ya go. also im going to continue the build in this thread unless mods tell me other wise i guess lol.

so let me know what you think, i researched compression test results for a cold sr20 and thats pretty good from what i read, and consistent, a brand new sr is supposed to read 153 psi warm on each cylinder (correct me if im wrong here). peace

Id be very happy with those compression numbers. Motor looks super clean too.

As for the wiring, any specific reason you wanted to do it yourself? You can sell your KA harness for about 100, your SR harness for about 150. Wiring specialties will sell you a premade harness for S14SR in S14 chassis for $325. So youre really only spending $75 if you can sell your harnesses for those prices. Thats the route I'm going anyway. $75 to skip a few extra hours of headaches? Im okay with that.

How about some pics of the car?

i know they make premade s13sr into s13 harnesses but unless they havent updated their website yet, you have to send in the s14 ka harness and the s14 sr harness for them to make it. if they do make premade s14 into s14 then i'll do it, but if not i can handle repining 3 plugs lol, its not too bad. oh and i'll post some pics of my car in a min, its super dirty, theres pollen EVERYWHERE here.

You are right, their S14SR to S14 wiring service is $260, plus you have to send your harnesses to them. Not as good of a deal as the S13SR into S14 premade harness.

WS has a tranny conversion harness... I thought the SR and KA used the same trans, and that all you had to do was switch over the speed sensor?

heres my car, havent done anything to it exterior wise other than oem hood bumpers to make things look proper up front. My car is an actual kouki year 1997 but for some reason who ever had the car before me got rid of the kouki tails, im always looking for a good deal on a set, but they are like 300$ everywhere you go lol.

suspension is shot, its on cut springs, i want coilovers but right now the money isnt there, so i'll probably look for some used suspensions setups soon.

Why would you have to switch over the speed sensor?

He's putting a S14 motorset in a S14. Same sensor.

You don't have a build even started then. Post when you have it done.
