alternator will not charge need help

ok guy just to get started am new here to this fourm, but am not a newbe
i have a 89 240sx with a sr20det i have the stock ka alternator on it and for some reason it not charging i dont think i hook it up wrong cause there is only 4 wires to hook up 1 ground 1 power and the 2 pin connector any ideas

also i have 3 wires that are cut these are by the fuse box in the engine bay have now idea where they go to

yellow/green
yellow/black
white/red

ok lat thing my gauge cluster lights and tail light will not work unless i rev the motor up any ideas on that too

That's funny the same day my alternator decided it wanted to stop charging out of nowhere your thread pops up, well as for your lights, the car is just running on battery power and the lights are drawing more power and the battery alone can't handle the car running and lights, mine coupe is doing the same thing right now and when I rev the little charge that my alt gives make every light up and run properly til the rpms go back down

yeah our cars are doing the same thing my alternator is new but it could still be bad

the alternator hasnt been in my car for a year yet, its weird cause i could smell burnt wire but i checked everything and nothing, i had my voltmeter connected and it was charging at 14.1 volts, then when my battery light came on i checked my meter and it said it was at 11.9 volts and dropping

Figure anything out? I went out last night and started my car, the alternator was charging again at 14 volts, was your alternator working when you installed it?

Ah ok, yeah I've got a few of those, always grab them when I go to the junk yard, but that sounds like your problem, hopefully that's all ya need!

yeah i hope so to but the junk yard out here does not have any 240 ill have to check with the dealer

Ok i got it i had the ground wire to close to the pos on the alternator so am good but my tach and feul gauge do not work anyone can help me out

having same problem. replaced the 75a fuse but rear tail lights dont work only headlights and tach does not work on cluster. help much appreciated

What kind of problem r u haveing replacing the fuse if ur cluster is not working make sure u have the DE gauge cluster and check the power and ground wires ur taillights check the grounds and the swicht by ur brake peddle and the fuse that what I would check first c how that goes than hit me back
