s13 Need advise on a sr swap.

alright so what i have here is a stock ka24e engine and want to put an sr20 in it. i have a local place that sells imported jdm engines. now heres the question, the guy sells different types of sr engines. Each one has different prices. can I just go cheap and buy a sr from a g20? or does it have to be an exact one for 240? also can a sr20ve be used to swap in a 240? any advise will help

If you buy one from a g20 it is made for FWD. it will not come with the correct mounts and has a distributor. I would suggest you get one from a s chassis. like a s13.

Make sure that it is a reputable importer. Don't just go for the cheepest price, because you will end up with a really cool turbocharged boat anchor.

REALLY!!!!!! not one to flame but my god search the forums there are plenty of other people that have asked this same dumb question if you would have spent 30 seconds on google you would have your answer.

http://zilvia.net/f/tech-talk/237660...swap-info.html

4th one down one the first page of google when i typed in sr20 swap.

1 fwd motors don't just drop right in
2 the ve motors is fwd so no it doesnt drop in but there is a head conversion you could do,but you wouldn't know that because you didn't spend ten minutes researching about your car.

SO use the search button before you ask a question answered a million times and more. Then if there is something you don't understand i'm sure there are people that would be more than willing to help you but not if your not willing to help yourself first!!!!!!!!!!!

If that's all you're asking, then yes, you can buy an SR20DE from a G20.

If you're asking if the G20 SR20DE can be used in your 240, you can pick parts off of the FWD SR and use them on a RWD SR. Read the SR FAQ at the top of the forum to see the cross-reference with the FWD engine. There is a list of what parts you can reuse.

If you're asking if the FWD drivetrain can bolt into your RWD 240, I'll let you decide if you want to convert your 240 to FWD or pull the block off of the FWD gearbox and try to mate the block to a RWD gearbox.

Any engine can be fitted to any car. It's just a matter of how much work you want to do. You could literally chop the front end off of a G20 and weld that to the rear half of a 240. It'll drive but I'm not sure how well.

Considering a 240 never came with an SR, I'm not sure what you mean by "exact one for 240".

Maybe you're talking about Japanese S-chassis like Silvia and 180SX and S14 and S15.

Any of these drivetrains will bolt in but wiring is a different story.

Sure, why not? Good luck getting wiring and other installation help though being how it's FWD.

Spend as much time as possible and read through what other people have spent a lot of time writing. Learn from what was written before asking.

If you're lazy and don't want to do any learning, then take your car to a shop, ask them what engine they would be willing to put in, and just pay them as much money as they want.

I don't see why you don't discuss your options with said importer...

Other then that just buy yourself a S-chassis SR20DET motor.

that option would prolly work better.
if you are a hands on guy, a 91 redtop would be a better choice for you as it is the cheapest sr motorset. if you care about mileage, it usually has more, but who really cares.

Most people would say that's too much money. Then they would say they don't want to learn how to do it themselves. Finally they just want stuff to magically appear.

You can't win.

buying a g20 sr is only gonna cost you a lot of extra money because you will have to buy the parts necessary to make it fit your rwd s-chassis. An s13 red top should run you about $2k with everything you need for the swap. If you don't know what you're doing I'd suggest dropping the extra money to take it to a shop, which will bring the price to around $3k maybe. Still will be cheaper than buying a g20 motor and modifying. And a lot less stressful. Make sure you study up first, before you buy!
