Hype's 1991 Nissan 240SX LE Fastback project

Starting my own project thread ..

I purchased a super white 1991 Nissan 240SX LE Fastback from a friend for $1500 which seemed reasonable considering the condition of the car and the aftermarket parts already on it:
  • Stance GR+ coilovers
  • Buddy Club Spec II catback exhaust
  • Megan Racing front upper strut bar (red)
  • Peak Performance RUCAs (gold, not green like they are these days)
It has interior and exterior issues, though. Exterior items that need replacing:
  • Front quarter panels (dings, minor dents)
  • Hood (dings)
Considering I want wider, vented fenders or a front-end conversion to something else like the S15, the issues with the above exterior components isn't that big of a deal.

Exterior items that need repair:
  • Patch hole where rear window wiper once attached
  • Remove silly euro antenna from roof and patch hole
  • Remove factory power antenna and patch hole
Interior items that need replacing:
  • Front seats
  • Rear seats and seatbelts
  • Front carpet
Considering I may just go with bare metal floors, single seat, and a cage, the problems with the above interior items may not matter anyhow.

Here's some pics of it when it arrived and after removing some of the interior:

Put it up on jack stands to further examine the car and look at some of the suspension components:

Bumper, radiator, shroud, fan, air box, coolant overflow tank, heat shield, cat, Buddy Club exhaust, and drive shaft are now out. Harness is disconnected from the motor and hanging over the edge. Driver and passenger motor mounts are unbolted from the frame (motor just resting in place).

Uncovered three issues:
  • Coolant overflow tank has a hole melted in it. Useless.
  • A/C compressor is not on the car at all.
  • Heater had a closed loop (out of motor, into motor) with no feed in or out of firewall.

Considering that there's no A/C compressor (and the heater core might be bad as well), that may change plans for me. I wanted A/C (and was thinking SR20 as a result), but perhaps going with a motorswap and/or turbo setup that doesn't allow for A/C should be the plan now. If its already gone other possibilities now open up.

So, does anyone have any suggestions on an aftermarket coolant overflow tank for a S13 that is made of metal and won't be so susceptible to melting? Any suggestions on the best way to put the A/C back in order if I wanted to try? How about the heater core. Darn thing is probably bad.

After a few hours of shifting the motor/transmission combo around and lowering the car slowly in order to get the KA24DE out without the hoist hitting the garage door, I finally got the whole motor/transmission combo out as one item.

Note to self: use engine hoist outdoors in the future to avoid garage door clearance issues.

Cool deal man. GL with the build. I would say go with the Circuit Sports coolant tank. It's metal and looks really good installed. I've seen some adapters on here that will allow you to use your USDM AC w/SR20. I'm pretty sure I saw that in the advertisers specials a while back. I've also found some stuff on the interwebz about the subject so it is possible.

edit: Sileighty beat me to the punch on the coolant tank hehe

You can bolt up the KA's DOHC A/C compressor to the SR's AC Bracket but you can only use two of the four bolts (which is enough) I'm doing the same thing

I see pictures, plans and engine removal, but the "build" escapes me...
Please build, then post
