NORCAL: Wanna drift? Click here! Save NorCal Driftaaas :P
In case you don't know, NCDA (a local event organizer in Northern California) recently had to cancel a upcoming drifting event on Sept. 5th due to lack of sign-ups.
However, thanks to angry drivers (such as myself) and stubborn organizers, an attempt is being made to get more people to commit to attending the event! The event was originally scheduled for September 5th (Sunday) at Altamont Speedway in Tracy, CA. (about an hour from most people in the Bay) If an additional 20 or so drivers commit to the event, the event WILL happen. Entry cost will be $100. Come out and show your support for drifting in NorCal! Stop being a internet drifter and come out and drive for real! If you don't support events out here, there won't BE any events! http://www.ncda.net/forums/showthread.php?t=366 Tell your friends! Please support drifting in NorCal!!! |

Tracy is Northeast of San Francisco. Closer to Oakland, out of the two big cities.
http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp...rch=++Search++ There is a flyer on the website. I am trying to get printed banners distributed to people willing to help get the word out. For now if you could print one out and post it ina appropriate place, that would help a lot! As far as the course "sucking," its basically an oval like Irwindale. Yes the pavement is ass in the skids, but I didn't really see anyone having trouble getting it loose out there (provided they didnt suck to begin with, like me). And as far as the difficulty or whatever, I completely suck at drift, and I only came close to hittin the wall once. And even then, the chance of me actually hitting was slim to none. AND I SUCK. Either you wanna drive or ya don't. I know its not perfect, but its hard to find a venue in NorCal, let alone actually have an event. Thats why you dont see them very often. We have to work with what we have, and hope for things to improve in the future. Trust me, I'm not all shits and giggles about the venue, but.. when you gotta go, you gotta go |

Im sick of all these norcal internet drifters. Im sick of all their whining, and procrastinating. "altamont sucks" Altamont is not a beginners course"
waah waah wah. Altamont is just as beginner friendly as any other course. If you have the correct line, and dont drive stupid then you probibly wont hit the wall. This is also one of the more technical tracks in nor cal. It forces you to learn and that is why i love that track. So come on, get out there, and drift.

^ yes, it may force you to "learn" but in a different way. I think without walls, most people will have more fun than worrying about the wall jumping in front of them. Plus, it doesn't matter if you're new or very experienced. Everyone crashes. Walls will increase the chance of fuking up your car.
And i think it's pretty much the same experience without walls; you'll still need to stay on the pavement. But at least if you spinout or lose control, you just land on dirt. But at Altamont, or any track with walls for that matter, if you spin out, you can potentially TOTAL your car (higher probability that is). And yes i've gone to Altamont (see sig) and a few other tracks (non-bay area). So i know first hand. And yeah, i agree with kazuo, Altamont is one of the very few tracks AVAILABLE for norcal, so we really only have two choices: Go, or don't go. We don't have the convenience of choosing to go to a different event. Im sure most of you can agree that a track without walls is more welcoming than a track with walls. |

I agree with pizza topping man. Walls suck, but we don't really have a choice, now do we?
Just grow some balls and try your best to stay off the wall. That's not to say I'm some manyly man with balls the size of grapefruits (although they are not tiny, either), its just to say that sometimes you need to work up a bit of courage and go do it. Kinda like when you see that chick at the club, and you wanna go "holler." Here's a hint: Just becuse you're at a track doesn't mean you should drive past your limit! It's the same as if you were in the twisties. |

I think its funny how people call the bay area "norcal" on a map it looks like the middle of the state to me, Im from humboldt county, thats really northern cali. But now in sb, only 1.5 hours from l.a. we are considered the central coast, funny stuff

walls are whatever. I went to the first event at altamont and it was bad ass. The only reason that i cant go to this one is because I fucked my car on the moutain, heance my race car being built. I wanna hit the track and altamont is the best we got. Stop complaining and drift.
