NorCal April 18th, SF Japan Town, JDM Theory Show
I didn't see any posts on this show that is taking place this Sunday as part of the Japan Town Cherry Blossom Festival.
There are 100 cars entered, most of which are Hondas, but a few of us will be carrying the Nissan banner. A couple of 240's, 510's, 300ZX's as well as others. Come on out and check out the show and feast on some good food from the festival. I just got my car back from the bodyshop so this is about as good as it is going to ever look as it is going to start taking a beating with the track events that I have signed up for this summer. Hope to see you all there, Glenn

I was there... It's an actual JDM car show with points and awards for different catagories so registration is required to enter. I didn't make the cut-off. Had a few Nissan representing at the show. And some other very clean cars.
They are having a bigger JDM Japantown street meet/show later on with more space for more cars. What sucked was some police were there hassling people, checking VINs and looking for illegal modifications. |

Absolutely nothing against JDM, but I will not go to another JDM Theory show or meet if it is held on a public street like it was today. I saw the CHP officier record my VIN and go to his undercover car to check something on his computer or whatever else he has in the car. He then came back and rechecked and then went to my mod list that I had on display and recorded something. He then circled around and went under a walkway behind the cars to record my license. They also did the same for some cars that were displayed on private property. One friend also was questioned by someone who he later found out was an undercover CHP officier. For me it is just not worth the risk anymore. I am really dreading getting something from the CHP in the mail in the next few weeks. Glenn

yea my last hin experence was bad...before the show even started i was with "AUTO RnD" prepping cars and sitting around to get a good spot inside and man were we there early,i mean before any other show cars....then as more and more cars showed up i noticed the CHP lurking around, there was this CHP on a motorcycle driving around the parking lot just lookin at everyones rides..then this happens....some guy from So Cal drove all the way up to san mateo in his JDM RHD 93 Civic hatch SIR to show his car and it was a nice one....but man that was a long drive.....well as he entered the parking lot where all the other show cars were just waiting around...the motor cycle pig saw him come in....saw that it was RHD and pulled him over before he even got a chance to park in a parking space...we all watched in amazement as this pig was messin with him for a while then the flat bed came....we were like WTF!....then later i herd that some other pigs were walking up and down the parking lot lookin at cars with mods and checkin vins....so lady and gents...if you go to a car show to show or spectate you can by law do one thing...put black tape over your vin and if your showing flip your licences plates....the black tape over your vin is not illigal just make sure if you get stopped the tape is removeable....

Their last meet in the Japantown parking lot was pretty good. Didn't see any police hassling people but then that was on private property.
A lot of people complained about the lack of air and the fumes in the garage so they decided to have the other meets outside. |

were sorry about the chp incident. we cannot tell them to stop, as they are there and they can do what ever they want. over all the turn out was good.
my only advice to the people that they (chp) had recorded. is that if you do get something in the mail. about your "illegal"mods, write them back asking them how chp found out what you have. tell them you were never pulled over nor did a chp officer talked to you. if they explain to you how they got it through a carshow, them tell them to screw themesle, i know i will. what they did is not illegal but they cannot use it against you. they cannot make you put your car back to stock nor can they fine you. you were on a closed street event and showing your cars. its same as us towing the spoon cars out there. nothing against the law about it. if they wanted to ticket you, or properly record your modifications, they needed to pull you over or atleast wait till you get passed the baracade and onto public open roads. pls email me at [email protected] if you do recive a ticket or a letter, and pass this along. if we get enough people then we could file a complaint against the city or chp. |
