SR20 - Missfire, gets hot, after headgasket install

Ok, so my friend installed new bearings and a headgasket into his SR20DET redtop. The guy knows what he is doing with such things, but when he went to fire it back up, it now barely runs, miss fires like crazy and the exhaust is getting red-hot, real quick.

I'm guessing timing and running lean, but everything looks alright. Could he have accidentally botched something in the install (of the new parts, motors been in for a year)? What else should I check that we might be over looking? Thanks.

Sounds like your exhaust cam is off. Check those and check timing. check plugs, make sure every injector is firing, tap on the top of the injector.
