lol I thought this was common knowledge already in the car community. it does work, but as mentioned only on dings or uncreased dents.

Wow.......... Im shocked that so few have heard of this.
This is a "super oldschool" trick.

Unfortunately it wont work if the metal has been "creased".

My uncle told me about this. He said he used to use it on his old Vette in the 80's...so i'm assuming this idea has been around even longer than that? It def works.

And a crease is like if you karate chopped a beer can and tried to pop the can back to its normal shape (won't work)....vs if you pushed in on the side with your thumb when drinking it, then realized you dented and and popped it back out.

I saw an old school body guy pop a roof on a 55 Chevy back into place w/ dry ice and a torch. Heat the metal then super cool it and boing- it popped into place.. I was warned "not to try that at home"

heh I don't think you want to be exposing your clearcoat to a torch!

The dry ice trick has been around forever. I have yet to try it but a hail storm left 3 dings on my roof so I'm heading to the grocery store to get some dry ice this weekend. It only costs like $1/lb. So cheap.

it did not work on my civic. then again it has a crease in the dent so it could have made it resistant to simple expansion of temp change

Tried it, doesn't work that great. It does work better if the car is in the sun. Minor dents went away, but nothing big. And sometimes your mind plays tricks on you, cause you want it to work. hahah. So you think it worked, but it really didn't. blah blah blah.

I got a few hail dings from a recent hail storm, and so I tried this on a very hot day... and it does not work. But I've also heard you need a heat gun to really make it work because you need a quick, big tempurature difference, so I might give it another shot some day.

Doesn't work. I tried getting it hot and then cold. Cold and then hot. I wasted 5+ hours and 20lbs of dry ice.

More like the 80's. Shit, this has been around since before that.

Best thing is heat gun and dry ice.

This isn't for hard dents, only once which are somewhat flexible.

And if the metal has been bent for quite some time, it kind of learns that shape.

The dry ice trick is for new dents.

[email protected] trying to take out qp dents.
