s14 fuel guage not working... HELP
so first of all im new to the forums..
bought my car like 6 weeks ago but really haven't had much time for researching online. My cars fuel guage is below empty... because the previous owner told me he had taken out the stock fuel level float because it was cracked and broken. (he dumped it in the trash),because of my location on the island its pretty limited. I got one of a 2000 s15 and put it in the tank. had 2 plugs (same size) one had 2 wires and one had 3 which clicked in the tank itself, correct me if im wrong. ( it did not come with the big plug that goes in the fuel sending unit) would a fuel level float from a 98 gts fit in mine ? and is the wiring the same? can anyone indentify the plugs please ! thanks guys |

The best way to fix this is get the service manual or wiring diagram from each car you have parts for. You just need to figure out which wires go together from the sender to the car's wiring.
The previous owner to my car put an OBD-II fuel tank into my OBD-I car. I had to get the manuals for both and dissect the wiring diagram to make the gauge read correctly. The fuel level is correct, but I can't ever get the fuel light to come on. But I have yet to run out of fuel. |

Hey Guys ...
I came home early from work ... read ur reply's ... I GOT IT TO WORK hahah sorry im happy man.... it sux not having fuel and ur car just stumbles and turns off infront of your grandma's house.. so.. like Promise Land said: 3 wire plug which i had to use 1 and 3 and connect the float to it.. but i had one from an s15 so i ended up splicing a couple of wires putting it on multimeter and with my service manual got it to work... guage was revived after grounding its screw for less then 10seconds. The only question i still have is ... there is a plug laying around in my tank and a plug that is on the float clicks right in it ( when i was pissed i cut it ) is that the gas light or something else ? cuz to my understanding the middlewire is the gas light ... i dint close up tank yet so lemme know |

I followed the manual also and the middle wire is the fuel light. But, don't be discouraged if it doesn't work. I have never been able to get my light to come on and I've driven until the needle is on the 'E' line and there's 360 miles on the tank. I have just decided to drive until I get the E line and not drive it until I get the light or it runs out of gas. I don't want to tow it home any more times than I have to... |

My gauge reads full, but after driving around knowing that im low on fuel it will eventually come down (after 200 miles of it reading full) so i guess my gauge is not reading accurate?!? right?? anyone had this problem?
