Tranny Issues HELP.

Well first of all the car grinds from 1st to 2nd gear when I shift normal. If I wait for the rpms to drop some between shifts I can get it not to grind. Lets say I floor the car in 1st then quick shift to 2nd it will just grind and will not go into 2nd until i let the rpms drop down.

Sometimes i'll put the car in neutral and it'll just start grinding and grinding until I put the clutch in...

Car shifts decent when car is cold and off.

Any ideas? Should I just pick up a new Tranny?

Any help would be appreciated.

*EDIT*
Forgot to mention it has a lightweight flywheel.

No I haven't I was thinking about picking up some gl4 Ams oil, but If it's a bigger problem I don't want to waste $50 on oil...

Changing the gear oil may help but probably won't cure the problem completely. These gear boxes are plauged with problems like this. Weak syncros, shift forks and gears in general. Sounds like the solution is either a rebuild or replace. I have gone through 2 s15 six speeds with similar grinding problems as well as stripped gears and bent shift forks. The s15 six speed is much weaker than the five speed but they are both relatively weak in the grand scheme of transmissions. I'll be the first to admit I'm extra hard on transmissions however these gear boxes are extra sensative! They must be shifted slowly to keep from damaging them! These are all the reasons I'm going to be adapting a totally different trans into my car. Leaning towards a T56 so far. Just gotta work out all the details. Oh yea redline shock proof oil or ams oil helps too. Good luck to you!

this is probably due to bad synchros. yeah everyone else said to change the fluid. if you haven't replaced the fluid over the past year or so then that MIGHT be the problem.

my opinion on it being bad synchros (the gold ringed) looking gears.
