Changing headgasket, deck the block? Deck the head?

Throwing in a Apexi 1.1mm headgasket 86mm in a stock bore redtop with arp headstuds.

DO i need to deck the block? Deck the head?

Searched with no luck, thanks in advance!

Hell, with the hardware and money you're putting into it, do it even if it DIDN'T overheat.

i assume you can deck a block with all the internals still inside it? same with a head? my engine's overheated atleast once while i've owned it and i plan to do the gasket and all other bits when i do my cams. what other work should not be overlooked while you have everything apart???

You can check the head yourself if you know how to use a feeler gauge. It should be in the FSM, basically you put a true flat level on the heads surface, then you feel the gaps with the feeler gauge, it should be within a certain spec. If not, then you need to get it decked.

yes you should regardless, your using a flat metal gasket now, and it'd really be in your best interest to just go a head and deck them so you have a smooth, flat surface for it to seal on.
