Shouldn't be racing on a public road regardless.

I have no feelings for the people who are getting "screwed" out of their driving spots...

True, racing on streets is very stupid, but it sucks that these kinds of things prevent people from even driving normally in areas like this because of the increased police presence and subsequently and increase in harrassment.

Damn...I read the whole thread and cudos to the G-force dude for being the hero.

Now, where in the bay area is hwy 9?

I am going that way in February and It seems like many a misshap has happened there.

I have never driven in Cal except rental cars in Burbank and H wood.

Dude must have been doing 90 to completely clear the railing like that.

That $hit scares me...

Santa Cruz Mountains...basically the "old" road between Santa Cruz and Los Gatos...

the Santa Cruz entrance is about 5 min from my house..

GREAT road...simply GREAT...not for racing though...too dangerous...spirited driving however, it is perfect for.....it is basically on par with any of the mountain roads in Initial D for those of you who need a reference...

HAHAHAH that was soooooo funny...not the accident but how that guy was getting so mad at "cagers" for racing. I think its more dumb to be in a bike racing than a car racing. NOT that racing is any good or does any good but racing on a bike falling off of that cliff. The guy would definatly be dead or a lot of broken bones possibly paralyzed.

Well there goes hwy 9 for awhile...

Congrats to G-Force for helping them. He needs to work on his english a bit...but at least he can speak it where you can understand. It just sounded funny reading it.

some people really don't have much of a choice. i live in colorado and there aren't any drift days or anything like that. and i dunno how happy the track masters at our 2 tracks would be about drifting. but there is a huge amount of twisty, out of the way mountain roads. it's a calculated risk really, if you cannot accept the dangers, you shouldn't go. and you should always try to keep it within your limits. that said, sh!t happens.

Both occupants are ok and out of the hospital. They werent racing anyone, the driver just took a corner a little too fast, hit a bump and lost it. Be carefull out there guys, it sucks even more when it happens to someone you know.

Think of those that you put at risk because of your actions. I am sure that you can handle the consequences but can the family of four? Or maybe the Rescue worker who puts his life at risk to come save you?

I am not innocent but it seems like you are the one who really doesn't now the consequences

I use to go there when I worked in San Jose. I quickly learned that a lot of cops go up there. If you sit at the big turn out on the left, I guarantee you will see a cop pass by in ten minutes. The reason we stopped going was because of a similar reason. There was an Audi A4, and an Accord Coupe that wrecked near the base. We saw them on the way down and there were cops everywhere, my car, and my friend's car are really loud. We were starred at relentlessly, but they didn't pull us over. The Accord and Audi were jacked up. Highway 9 is not the place to go.

it's all a calculated risk, when we go, the only ones at risk are ourselves, and i can deal with that. well, maybe the occasional racoon or squirrel. the roads we go on at the times we go have nobody else to share the road with. i know i may sound like some stupid street racer kid to you guys, but if you lived in colorado, you'd know that we have a huge amount of mountain roads and highways that are completely vacant 90% of the time. besides, you can see oncoming cars really easily where we go. i think in the total time i have been running in the mountains, i've came across like 3 oncoming cars, and we saw them way before they got to us and had plenty of time to slow down.

another good thing is that some of the roads are one way, meaning you will never run into an oncoming car.

i dunno how it is in cali, but that chances of hitting a family of four at 1:00 am on a road that goes up and down a canyon with nothing but a dirt parking lot and view of nothing is slim to none here.

another thing is we're not trying to play initial D here, not trying to drift every corner or anything like that. we usually go up and down once slowly, to check out the area, then go at it. if you want a drift session there are ways to set up a corner safely.

Watch out for the weekend crouchrockets on Mines/Mt H roads - there is a biker hangout near the northeast end of the ride (Junction Cafe)

I have friends up on 35 so I am a regular on 9 and have seen 4 integras, a civic, prelude, s13, Mazda Protege, a boxster and 2 random chevy passenger cars crash within a year or so. My best friend flipped his protege twice off a cliff somehow while doing 30 out of a corner he has pulled 80 out of. The Police action has slowed down on the saratoga side recently I have noticed, but I have seen alot more people getting ****ed up on that road now, so I doubt that it will last like that forever. If you are going to be running that road at night, the only chill time is after 12 or so, once everything dies down. Also, to that dude with the black s13 that told me his car was "stock with a N/A timer", seriously man, wtf are you running under the hood? </drunken post>

Edit: You deserve to burn if you race up 9 during daylight.

Yea, well, he told me it was a K something or other "The double one." Also, he had a BOV and JDM silvia badges. The thing sounded mean, he had done some engine work to it, and the turbo and BOV were RFL. I had some feeling that he thought I was some civic owner or something because I was standing nexts to my girlfriends saturn and sounded hella stupid when I asked him, but whatever, I was hella sober (and still am.) I am up over at the 35 vista nearly every night it seems, so come on over to the Subaru 2.5RS thats completely 100% stock (I swear) and say wassup. Also, talk with the Mazda protege people, you might like their ideas. Oh and uh, like racing on public roads is like umm illegal and bad and unsafe or something, so like ummmm.... dont do it....

The real story....

First off he wasn't racing....as stated before

He has a custom turbo kit and a electromotive tech 2. The tech 2 cut out mid corner at about 65mph and he oversteered severely and didn't correct soon enough and went off the cliff. He was ok but had to go to the hospital to get stitched up and treated for minor injuries.

How do i know? He's a customer at Full Speed and stopped by to say hi today.

Now you know....

So, last night I was playing my Highway 9 video game and and got a 4 minute 7 second run from the end of the main street till the stop sign at the junction. Does anybody else remember their score from that game? Is that comparably quick against a 240, I couldnt play as one in that game, it only let me play as a GC8.
