S14 5spd swap question

I've got a 96 s14 ka auto car. At the moment it is throwing a vss code that I can not get rid of.
The question is this- if I go to a 5spd and use a 5 spd ecu will the vss code go away? My thinking is that the auto ecu uses thus for shift points as well as the speedo, but seeing that you shift a 5 spd when you want wouldn't this negate the code? I've replaced the vss with a new one and a good used oem one, as well as the main ecu, the trans ecu and now I'm taking apart another lower harness to see if I can make a mini harness just for the vss. If it does not work I will be stumped.

Mini harness sounds like a hug waste of effort.

Does your speedo work?

Yep the speedo works fine. Just cant get the vss code to go away so it can pass texas emissions. I've even jumped a wire from the speedo to the ecu with no luck.

Make sure that the speedo you are using, new or used, is an S14 one
Don't know if things changed in the years since I last did an auto to manual swap
but an issue then was that stores sold S13 speed sensors as S14 ones.
Only way to get right parts was to buy it from the dealer - and iirc, the little gear needed
to be bought separately aswell.

As far as converting to manual it is more complicated to do it right.
ECU,
S14 transmission - speed sensor and crank position sensors
flywheel bolts
trans mount
5 speed mount
s14 pedal or modded s13 one
clutch master and line
and probably a few things I can't remember

Yeah the one I got used was from another s14 auto car. That's why I've ruled that issue out.
Converting to stick is something I'll do the right way. Do you think it will rid me of this check light? I planned on swapping to stick later as I have another project going now but may have to moves this to the front as I need to register the car and can't until it passes emissions.

Any other thoughts on if it will resolve my check engine light if I swap to a 5spd?
