Decisions, Help?
Hey Zilvia. Im about to make the conversion from honda to nissan. Im loving the community, alot less hostile than honda and way more fun. I have a 1997 Honda Prelude that im about to sell and get a 240sx. Seeing as i am new to the nissan world, im not really to sure where to go other than getting the 240. I do know engine codes, sr20det, ka24det, single cam ka24e etc etc so im not clueless.
The point of this thread though is really to ask for a general, good starting direction for a new reliable 240. I want boost. So, ka-t or sr20det. on a 3,000 budget, where can i go?

Well sometimes you can find a shell for a $1000 and you can find a sr for $1500.But my expierience with these cars is buy a decent car for $3000 and drive it.Save your pennies, because any of the boosted engines you are talking about are going to take some cash to do it right.I am on my 3rd 240sx and building this one hasn't been cheap to do it right.Save yourself the headache.

Never owned a rear wheel drive car but my step mom had a 05 m5 and my dad has a 07 tundra. And i drove those avidly. in rain etc etc. so yeah i know about oversteer and stuff. Im getting the 240 because i want something different and fun. Its the car i wanted as my first car but my dad got me an integra instead lol. Trust me, i wont crash it.

Dude seriously I would recommend getting a somewhat stock clean 240 and just doing suspension and chassis stuff first. Learn how to drive it and then once ur comfortable in it then go upgrade and get a turbo set up for ur KA or get an SR swap. I know you have driven ur parents RWD cars here and there but an m5 and a tundra are way different then a 240 the weight distribution is different, the ride height and center of gravity is different, and so on. Get comfortable with the 240 by driving it as a DD and then add power.

Daily Drivers dont always make good projects especially if something goes wrong when you dont have enough money for proper parts. Start stock then you can see how much you like it and what needs to be changed. Im stubborn on that I dont think theres any other way to do it correctly. Taking in someone elses project can turn out very badly very often.

Good start? i can talk him down a decent amount. I should probably be able to get it for like 900 or so. Is it really in the $350 to fix whats wrong with the KA?

Oh man I just realized ur from Flo Rida, it all makes sense now...
On a serious note, if ur budget is 3gs ur prob not gonna be able to buy or build a legit and clean "turbo 240", a lot of people in here is suggesting the same exact thing buy a stock 240 get use to it and then build it. If u go about it the way ur talking ur gonna end up spending more money than u want on a half assed car and end up with a blown KA and a car ur unhappy with. SR is gonna be out of ur budget cus you're gonna need to buy a car like this with a shit KA and then buy a swap and install it URSELF, you may be able to do it but u will be buying a 20yr old motor and unable to build it for lack of funds. I'm going to say this one last time and I really hope for ur sake that you take it to heart... BUY A STOCK 240, get a JOB (it u don't already have one), invest SOME of the remaining budget into doing suspension (u can get coilovers for under a grand), last and most important SAVE the remaining money from the budget for fixing things that break, because believe me THINGS WILL BREAK. That's my advice take it or leave it, if you decide to keep along this path of a "turbo 240" for 3gs, don't say I didn't warn you when you come back here in 2 weeks or 2 months crying about ur cars all fucked up |
