I have to agree about the Mopar thing. What is the motivation? Nobody in this sport has nor will ever probably buy a Viper to go drifting with it. Its odd marketing considering they have the SRT that would be a little more respected rather than that ridiculously overpowered behemoth. If they had a single marketing brain cell, all you would see would be SRT's and pushing those like crazy. Selling cars, like Ford is trying to do with the new albeit ugly ass Mustang.

That Mustang does kick ass. I just hope somebody can come up with a decent body kit that will get rid of those incredibly ugly school bus style headlites.

hmmm you can get a viper for 25K if you look hard enough
that is still cheaper than a new 350Z, G35, S2K, Mustang
so yes eventually regular guys will be trying to drift vipers

Its not the price that will keep guys from buying a Viper. Even if it is cheaper than a Z. The Viper is not a heritaged drift car, it is certainly a respected car for what it is. It will however never hit popularity status among drifters because its not a Japanese car. Thats just fact. And the Mustang..... I could probably count on all 10 fingers the guys across the US who have purchased a Mustang because they fell for Fords marketing campaign to make it a drifter. And those would be targeted newbies anyway. No drifter that does not have a car sponsor is seriously drifting a Mustang or a Viper are they? I could be wrong, but i have just never seen it yet. Notice Nissan does not sponsor drifters? They don't have to.

it was good for a regular event. speeds weren't as fast as D1 but i still have a good time. i left before the tandem started... shitty but i was burnt out there and i now have a wife beater tan... so i assume the viper won? mopar is just there to show american muscle. beat "us" at our "own" game...

It turned out to be pretty good I think Rhys Millen won for the year in points but Chris Forsberg won the event and I even got one of the used tires from his Falken S15 right before the Rhys Millen battle for memorabilia.

Just a staging shot.

A pic with Daijiro in his borrowed 240.

yeah uh, two words: teh k3n gushii
"teh" and "gushi" being the important two.
It`s the best platform out there when you consider cost and availability. No matter how uncool it makes you to drive the quintessential car of the sport.

kinda late on this conversation...

but you are RETARDED if you think that any car company is trying to market their NEW CARS with drifting...They aren't stupid...they know that drifters are broke ass kids! That's completely out of the picture. They're trying to get people to just take a look at Ford and say, wow, they're doing progressive things. And then buy a Ford...not sell the mustang cuz JR and Ken are driving them!

So that was you fucker!!! LOl JK. Someone threw one at me and i caught it in mid air and threw it at someone else and a guard came up to talk to me. I knew he was gonna throw me out so i acted like a didnt speak english and he moved on lol.

Ok let me put in my 16 year old 2 cents

That viper pissed me off because i think Ken Gushi won that last run. Then Sam comes back just to spin out!! Ken Would of put up a better fight. They are marketing the Mustang and the GTO as drift cars because i was that the ford dealer right before FD with my sister about to buy her mustang and the sales man was like " yea your going to drift this thing, its perfect for drifting blah blah blah". But if watch when the japs come to town in december for america vs japan that viper will be no where in the finals. Rhys will be there and Chris F will be there in the finals.

And oh yea how do you think Ken and JR got there cars? LOL they didnt get them from the dealership , ford gave the mustangs to the Drift directors of the toyo team and the falken team and just told them to use them. Gushis dad even said many times the car wasnt good for his development as a driver, why would a person buy there son a car they know is not going to make him any better as a driver?

You just explained in your statement that Ford is both NOT trying to sell cars via the drifting market and TRYING to sell cars via the drifting market. THEY ARE USING DRIFTING EVENTS TO SELL CARS. And NO, Ford is not doing progressive things with the Mustang. Whats progressive about it? They brought back a 60's
era design and threw some stylish curves inspired by IKEA furniture or something? Theres no significant technology in that car. Is there?

The Japan vs. US drifters event is in December at Irwindale the weekend of the 17th. It is a great show to see, and you will get a close up learning experience
and a cultural one. www.D1GP.com
